The DAE is an in-house developed multi-tiered application used to simplify and standardize the day-to-day tasks involved in the operation of Schwab’s two main data centers and the 3000+ servers and network devices that power Schwab. The DAE uses a high functionality Java SWING graphical user interface and various Java daemons running on Linux servers to implement the bi-directional communication to and control of an assortment of Data Center system management tools. From the DAE’s GUI Schwab’s data center operations staff are able to select and run an assortment of tested and certified jobs against UNIX, Linux and Windows servers as well as the various routers and switches that make up the data center environment. The DAE makes use of Java, SWING, JDBC, Perl, XML and SSH as well as a MS-SQL Server backend database to accomplish its goals.
