I work directly with automotive OEMs to present our technology and analyze their requirements. This role requires the preparation and presentation of deep technical information about our products, and working with the OEMs to show how our technology can meet their requirements. This also allows to me deeply engage with the architects planning future chip architectures to align their plans with what we perceive the market needs to be.I also manage the creation of the technical reference documentation; and chair the automotive invention review committee, working with in-house and outside counsel on filing patents, and patent litigation.

Part of the CTO office, I work closely with customers and engineering to define the roadmap, and bridge between engineering and the customer facing team. I create and present technical deep dives of current and future products to customers, and use feedback from these to refine future plans. I then deeply engage with design leads to define architecture, and align performance and power goals. I play a number of other key roles including being point on all technical liaison with ARM, editing engineering documentation, working with OS partners, managing patent review committees, and technical engagement with the automotive team.Previously, I lead the system architecture team for three generations of the Tegra applications processor. I am responsible for the overall system, memory controller and system buses, CPU, peripheral controllers, DMA paths, high speed peripherals and flash memory controllers. I manage technical engagement with ARM and maintain a strong relationship with them for the world’s first Cortex-A9 design. I guide development of multiple blocks, and instilled processes for low power and high performance.

Us

I recruited and led a team to develop the world’s lowest power hardware video decoder, as part of the CTO’s technology group. I led this design through tape out. This was key technology that led to NVIDIA’s purchase of PortalPlayer, and is still in use in Tegra today.

I led the chip design teams for two generations of the NForce 3 chip-set used with the then novel AMD K8 CPU architecture. Managed the chip design process through concept, development, verification, timing closure, bring-up and release to manufacturing. Led a team of as many as 35 hardware engineers.

A start-up that created the NUON multi-core VLIW media processor. I led system architecture, and designed and brought to production this highly innovative device. I also led a software team that delivered production DVD player software to Toshiba and Samsung.I started as employee #4 and helped lead this company as it grew to around 120 people at its peak. Managed hardware and software teams.

I recruited and led a new team developing the aborted Jaguar 2 game console. I designed two new custom chips, and led the effort to significantly enhance the 3D graphics system to support much higher performance. Also supported the Jaguar system in production, and worked with game developers.

Developed the Atari Jaguar, the world's first 3D gaming console. Architected and designed a 3D graphics rendering engine and GPU RISC processor from scratch. Worked with Atari to get this into production, worked with multiple game developers to debug and enhance 3D games for Jaguar.

Developed a novel and high-performance 2D gaming computer system, licensed as the Konix Multi System, and also used in pub quiz machines. Architected and created the blitter, a high performance and efficient 2D graphics engine.

Joined the ZX Spectrum team as a new college grad, doing pre-launch software testing on the Basic interpreter, and working with the PR team for worldwide launch events. I re-designed the Spectrum internals for lower cost, better manufacturability and higher reliability. I designed the custom chip for a portable computer project called Pandora, and also defined a next gen game system called Loki. I was lucky enough to go to Japan with Margaret Thatcher to present a Spectrum to the Japanese prime minister.
