For the past 10 years S3 Connected Health division has pioneered the use of technology to make healthcare more convenient, economical and effective. The company are experts in a broad spectrum of technologies used by patients, healthcare providers, carers and payers. But these systems are not just about technology - they also require insight and experience with the business, clinical and regulatory requirements of the market in order to be successful. I am delighted to be working with S3 to drive product strategy and innovation.

As part-time contract project manager and technology adviser my role principally involved the delivery of web-based systems for Data Conversion clients like Sky Ireland and Danone. I was involved in both the customer liaison and tech management roles. I managed a small tech team of 4 people including outsource to deliver systems on the Microsoft .NET platform.

Newbay (now part of Blackberry/RIM) is a leading supplier of digital lifestyle and user generated content solutions to mobile operators. Newbay’s customers include tier-1 European and US carriers. The company thrived by delivering end-user applications which combine mobile technologies with the power of the web. These applications include social network aggregation on the handset, operator albums for photo and video sharing, and cloud storage solutions. My responsibilities in Newbay Software include:• Product Management for Newbay’s Message Minder, an innovative mobile message management solution. • Product Management for Newbay’s Social Address Book which is a mobile phonebook with social networking capabilities.• Product Manager for Newbay’s Lifecache platform which includes elements such as identity management, customer care, search, SMS and MMS gateways, a video and image transformation/transcoding capability, and a reporting framework. • Management of engineering and QA teams for Social Network Gateway Product, Photo and Video Album product and much of the core LifeCache platform.• Liaison for pre- and post- sales customer engagements including workshops, presentations, RFP responses and negotiations.Selected Achievements in Newbay Software• Improved product management methodologies in Newbay to keep engineering focussed and productive on high-value activities.• Newbay is transitioning from being a solutions-driven company to being a product-based organisation. I have championed and lead initiatives that have resulted in higher quality software that is easier to customize and reuse across multiple customers and applications. • I have been part of a product and engineering management team that has overseen the delivery of new media solutions worth several million dollars to two large US operators over a 9-12 month period. Cape Clear (now Workday) specialized in web services and standards based integration. I built and worked with an excellent team of software engineers delivering a software platform and tools to organisations including BSkyB, JPMorgan, Channel 4, Vodafone, Eirgrid. The majority of development was done in Java and our software ran on a multiplicity of J2EE, database and messaging infrastructures. We preached and practiced agile in the form of scrum, we automated our tests and used JIRA to track our backlog.

Softco is a leading supplier of collaboration and document management tools. Softco’s customer list included organisations like the Revenue Commissioners, Vodafone, GE Capital, DHL and FedEX.During my time in SoftCo I held the following roles:Oct 1999-Mar 2001 VP of Global Product ManagementJan 1999-Oct 1999 European and Corporate Sales ManagerJan 1998-Jan 1999 Technical Sales ManagerMay 1994-Jan 1998 Software Development ManagerThe variety in these roles demonstrates my adaptability. As software development manager I was responsible for the analysis, design, implementation and deployment of Softco solutions. As technical sales manager I became more involved in pre-sales support, customer presentations, business analysis and formation of proposals. When I became sales manager I was responsible for ensuring that European sales targets were successfully met. This role involved sales presentations to clients, contract negotiation, key account management and responsibility for revenue recognition. Finally, as head of product management I lead a team of 5 defining the strategic direction for the Softco product range.Selected Achievements in Softco• As a senior member of the Softco management team I was intimately involved in the success story which saw the company grow from $1m turnover and 10 employees in 1994 to $12m turnover and 120 employees in 2000.• Responsibility for winning and delivering key accounts such as Eircell, DHL UK, Revenue Commissioners, Dept of Agriculture.• Conceptual design and delivery of innovative customs invoicing solution for logistics companies which very significantly reduced invoicing time and cost.
