Doctoral Researcher exploring student agency in the English secondary education system.Student agency is an essential part of the transformational change needed in education systems, however we know surprisingly little about student agency in the context of the English education system. The purpose of my study is to find out what students and their teachers think about student agency, as well as their experiences of agency and how this is supported by their educational environment. I retrained as a teacher in 2017 and my research stems from what I perceived as a tension between normalised classroom conditions and an atmosphere supportive of learning and collaboration. As General Manager of The Awen Project, I was responsible for bringing everything together and taking the project from a great idea to a workable new model for education.
