In September, John McCandless testified for the plaintiff as an expert in insurance standards and practices in the bad faith trial of Mohney vs. American General Life Insurance Company. The Superior Court had earlier remanded the case to be retried in part due to an abuse of discretion by the trial court in excluding Attorney McCandless' expert report and testimony at the earlier trial. See the Superior Court opinion at Mohney v. Am. Gen. Life Ins. Co., 2015 PA Super 113, 116 A.3d 1123 (May 8, 2015).

The case was appealed to the Pa. Supreme Court. Last month the Court ruled in Rancosky's favor and issued an opinion which is the definitive ruling on the elements of insurance bad faith in Pennsylvania. See the Court's opinion at Rancosky v.
