Phd Student - Cancer BiologyCornell University Aug 2007 - Sep 2013Ithaca, Ny, Us• Target validation: established novel link between the epigenetic enzyme PADI2 and the progression of breast cancer using standard molecular biology techniques in both cell-based systems and genetically modified mouse models.• Compound validation: evaluated the efficacy of a PADI2 small molecule inhibitor as a potential drug candidate in the treatment of breast cancer progression both in vitro (2D/3D cell culture) and in vivo (xenograft model of human DCIS).• Generated a novel transgenic mouse model of skin cancer, establishing that PADI2 is sufficient for the development of skin neoplasias; molecular and pathological analysis showed lesions advanced to invasive squamous cell carcinomas.• Managed and played a key role in an interdisciplinary collaboration (with Scripps Chemistry Department) during the evaluation of two generations of PADI2 small molecule inhibitors as potential cancer therapeutics.
