The English Schools' Orchestra and Choir, founded in 1994, exists to provide the opportunity for talented young orchestral musicians and singers, still in full time education, to meet and perform with other similarly talented young people from all over the country.

The Panel of Experts on Assessment was established in 2016 by the Secretary of State for Education, consequent on the recommendations of the Commission on Assessment Without Levels Report, published in September 2015, which set out a range of guidance for schools to help them in the transition to assessment without levels, to advise Ministers on: (i) how to take forward the Commission’s recommendations; (ii) how best to support schools in developing high quality assessment systems that do not use levels; and (iii) to provide advice on other assessment issues as appropriate.

The group was appointed by the Secretary of State for Education to develop a framework of core course content for Initial Teacher Training (ITT), to provide guidance on the essential elements required to support trainees to meet the Teachers’ Standards to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

The Commission was established in February 2015 to help schools to develop their own assessment schemes following the introduction of the new National Curriculum and the removal of national attainment targets and levels.

The Oratory in England was founded by John Henry Cardinal Newman in 1848 in Birmingham. The London house started soon after, and quickly gained independence. For almost 150 years, these were the only two Oratories in England. However, Newman had always wanted to establish a house in Oxford, and had indeed considered no fewer than three sites in the city for the purpose; at the time, though, his ideas came to nothing.In 1990, the Archbishop of Birmingham asked the Birmingham Oratory if it could spare some of its members to take over the running of the Church of St Aloysius in Oxford. Two priests arrived in September 1990, soon to be joined by a student for the priesthood. In 1993, the Oxford Oratory was established as an independent Congregation in its own right. The priests are involved in a variety of works, including the running of the parish and primary school, hospital, and prison chaplaincy.

The Foundation was establish as an incorporated charity in 2006 at the initiative of a group of parents of choristers to support the work and development of the Schola, a specialist liturgical choir for boys, age 7 to 19. The work of the Foundation includes awarding bursaries and making grants to support individual choristers.

The David Ross Education Trust is an academy trust established by the David Ross Foundation. It has over 20 academies, including primary, secondary and grammar and special schools. More schools are in the process of converting to academy status to join the Trust, and it will be opening its first free school in September 2014.

Its function is to provide interim expertise and high-quality governance to support future improvement in the school, including the promotion of high standards of educational achievement.

The Board was established in 2012 when the National College for School Leadership became an executive agency of the Department for Education. The Board's role was be to provide the Senior Leadership of the National College with sound advice and appropriate challenge on the effectiveness of the College's work and its impact, and to have a role in testing ideas and in providing feedback. In 2013 the college merged with the Teaching Agency to become the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

In 2012, the Teaching Agency became a new executive agency of the Department for Education, with responsibility for ensuring the supply of high-quality teachers and training, and teacher regulation. It was also had responsibility for policy for teachers and instructors; those working in Early Years; classroom-based school support staff; special educational needs co-ordinators (SENCOs); educational psychologists and examination officers. In 2013 the Teaching Agency merged with the National College for School Leadership to become the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

The National Curriculum Review Advisory Committee was appointed to support the Department for Education in the conduct of the review of the National Curriculum by drawing on the individual and collective expertise and experience of its members to offer a wider perspective on the proposals from the Expert Panel and providing advice on strategic issues.The support comprised four key aspects: to help the Department for Education to ensure that the review delivers the objectives described in its remit; to provide a wider perspective and feedback on proposals and recommendations generated by the Expert Panel; to consider and make recommendations on strategic and cross-cutting issues arising from the review as and when it is invited to do so by the Secretary of State; and to advise the Director-General for Education Standards in drawing up the final recommendations regarding the future form and design of the National Curriculum.

The Skills Tests Review Panel was set up by the Secretary of State for Education in 2012, in the light of his commitment to recruit and train a new generation of outstanding teachers, to help to ensure that the skills tests for those wishing to train as teachers were appropriately rigorous and demanding.

The Teachers’ Standards Review was set up by the Secretary of State for Education in 2011 to establish a set of standards for teachers that would be unequivocal, clear and easy to understand; provide a tool to assess teachers’ performance and steer professional development; inspire confidence in the profession; focus primarily on the key elements of excellent teaching, how to address poor behaviour and how to support children with additional needs, including Special Educational Needs; and encompass standards of ethics and behaviour, both within and outside the school, including, for example, having tolerance and respect for the rights and views of others and not undermining UK democratic values.

Responsibility for the bilingual course is a partnership between the governing body of the Holy Cross School and the Lycée Français. The management committee is an advisory body which has oversight of the management and development of the bilingual course. Its remit includes the common curriculum, which meets the statutory requirements of English and French education systems; operational issues concerning the joint use of accommodation and resources; staffing; and the future development of the bilingual course, including the progression of pupils to the secondary phase of education.

Responsible for establishing a bilingual (English & French) primary education course – effectively, a free-standing 2FE bilingual primary school – involving a partnership between the local authority, the French government, Westminster Diocese and the governing body of a maintained primary school.The project was a join initiative of the French Ambassador and the Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, both of whom recognized the cultural and linguistic benefits of a bilingual education, particularly in Fulham, where there was a very large French community, many of whom wanted a bilingual education for their children.

The Commission was established by the Leader of the Council to develop a detailed and coherent strategy for secondary provision in Fulham. All of the recommendation were accepted and implemented in full.

More House School is an independent London day school for girls in Knightsbridge, founded in 1953 and managed by a charitable trust.

The London Oratory School is a six-form-entry, all-ability school for boys, which admits 20 boys to a specialist music course at the age of seven, 160 eleven-year-old boys to the first form, 20 thirteen-year-old boys to the third-form and and 30 girls to the sixth-form annually. The school was established at South Kensington 1863 and moved to its present site in Fulham in 1970. A Junior House was opened in September 1996, to which 20 seven-year-old boys are admitted for a specialist music education through to the age of 19.

The National Curriculum Council (NCC) was one of three bodies created under the Education Reform Act 1988 to help in implementing the national curriculum and its assessment arrangements. The central functions of the NCC were to keep all aspects of the curriculum for county and local authority, voluntary, grant-maintained and maintained special schools under review and to advise the Secretary of State on matters concerning the national curriculum. It was also required to assist the Secretary of State in carrying out research projects into curriculum matters and to publish and disseminate reports as requested. It was wound up in 1993.

The Health Education Council was established in 1968 by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Services, as the effective replacement of the Central Council for Health Education. Its core functions were to advise and promote health education, to act as the national centre for expertise in health education, to provide information, and to commission research into health education. In April 1987, the Council's functions were transferred to the Health Education Authority, which wound up in March 2000 and its functions passed to the newly-created Health Development Agency.
