Energy Networks Research Leader
The CSIRO is the Australian Commonwealth Government's flagship scientific and industrial research organisation connecting universities, businesses and governments to solve Australia's greatest challenges.I currently coordinate the CSIRO's energy networks research portfolio, which includes:- enhancing energy forecasting, system planning and operational capability using a new generation of energy data and analytics, working with AEMO and the Commonwealth Government- unlocking the capacity of customer energy resources such as demand flexibility, rooftop solar and EVs, working with network businesses, technology innovators and governments across Australia.A big part of my role is identifying the challenges experienced by network businesses, AEMO and other energy industry organisations and connecting them to solutions developed by the research community and technology startups. Where solutions don't exist I try to build collaborative research programs to help address them. If you are a member of a network business, AEMO or other energy industry organisation with a problem I encourage you to get in touch so we can better understand the challenges you're currently experiencing and figure out how Australia's research and development community could help address it.If you are a member of the research community with relevant capability or work in an exciting startup I'd also love to speak with you to see whether we can help accelerate the development and adoption of your work.

Ecologic is a web platform to help households and businesses rate their energy / carbon performance and install building improvements, efficient and smart appliances, solar PV and batteries. The household or business begins by answering a targeted set of questions about their building and appliances. A set of advanced physical and financial simulations are then performed to assess their energy performance and evaluate the impact of a wide range of actions including energy plan changes, building performance improvements, efficient appliances, solar PV and batteries. A detailed report is then provided including a benchmark comparison and breakdown of their energy use, bills and carbon footprint, and an action plan providing a set of recommendations tailored to their unique situation. An in-app 'energy concierge' service is then offered to assist them with acting on their plan, including how-to guides, a panel of local quality suppliers, e-quotes, finance and incentives. The platform is delivered via one of four products:- Ecologic Home, a free web and mobile app for households to rate and upgrade their own homes- Ecologic Pro, a subscription based product for energy assessors and other building professionals to provide ratings and upgrade advice to their customers either in-person or over the phone- Ecologic Supplier, for energy product and service providers to access customers via our network of professionals and partners- Ecologic Partner, for electricity retailers, community organisations, local government and other partners to provide the white labelled product to their networks
