A holistic thinker, John helps clients improve energy performance as well as interior environmental qualities like thermal comfort, daylight, and fresh air. His expertise includes high-performance envelope design as well as energy modeling and campus decarbonization planning.A LEED Accredited Professional and Certified Passive House Designer, John excels in tracking project performance toward certification goals. His contributions at MBB include educational, cultural, and residential projects such the Riverside Church Sustainability Study, Bayard Cutting Arboretum Visitors Center, Fishers Island Residence, Sagaponack Residence, Lighthouse Works Community Arts Center, and an award-winning proposal for a Net Zero Energy Library in California. An advocate for architecture’s role in responding to the climate crisis, John serves on the Committee on the Environment of the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter, and previously served on the NYC Energy Conservation Code Commercial Advisory Committee.
