In the Google offices in Pyrmont, John worked on systems for Google which helped the Technical Support Engineers for G-Suite do their job:- an 'Automated Assigner' routing incoming support tickets to the relevant available engineers (python)- an internal browser addon which gathers real time data from internal systems to inject into the intranet pages the TSEs use whilst talking to g-suite customers (javascript)- "smart suggestions"—a machine learning chat application to suggest responses to customers during a live chat (javascript)- an application to review, score, and critique the responses of TSEs to customers (python) participation in routine stand-ups and sprint planning meets

Caradvice is an online motoring magazine. Bestprice was a splinter startup offering a marketplace for purchasing new cars. John joined an initial team of five to built and implement the MVP features (Python, Django, MySQL, backbone.js), then, after launch, continued as the sole maintainer. Unfortunately, the business model faltered and John gradually spent more time assisting with the DevOps for CarAdvice proper (AWS, PHP, MySQL). The engagement was interrupted by a serious road accident.

Dolby acquired an IP voice client and needed to rebuild the API controller to coordinate all the client connections, such that it could be re-sold to British Telecom for their enterprise business voice communications and conferencing solution.Working solo, John successfully delivered a robust enterprise-grade REST API to their specifications and time-frame (Python/Django).In his "spare time", John also maintained the PHP website for Dolby Axon gaming voice solution.

Fervr is a facebook alternative for Christian youth groups in Australia provided by the Sydney Anglican Diocese. It implements magazine content for adolescents, plus compartmentalized social networks for youth members aged 8-18 years. Each group getting their own home pages, chats, photo sharing, and event sharing.Working in a team of three, with a frontender and a marketeer, I was amazed how much facebook functionality we could replicate. We also ran an online shop via Shopify and routinely published single-use promotional and ticketing websites for live events, included one at the Sydney Entertainment Center. All this work was acknowledged as 15th Annual Webby Awards Honoree (2011)
