As a graduate student in the Pellegrino research lab I was tasked with a number of different projects and responsibilities. The first primary research task was CFD models and experiments to further the understanding of the theory behind nanoscale patterns fouling reduction. The second primary task was to design and run milk filtration experiments with patterned and unpatterned membranes to determine the benefits for a complex fluid. In the course of these two primary tasks I had to design experiments and flow cells and fix broken equipment. Equipment problems often arose and my lab cultivated skills to address and successfully resolve them. I have fixed Labview code and written scripts and programs for processing in Matlab. I have done literature research and designed and improved protocols. I was self taught regarding how to run computational fluid dynamic simulations on the notoriously difficult learning curve software OPENFOAM.
