As an Ambassador for Business Network International I visited many new groups around Yorkshire as the organisation moved through a rapid growth phase. As a speaker I gave many education presentations and was a regular presenter at conferences across the UK. I also presented at the International conference in the US in 2009.During this busy networking period I was voted Best New Speaker of the year (UK & Ireland) 2008 and Best Speaker for Audience Assessment (UK & Ireland) 2009.

As Chairman of DASA I was responsible for leading the National Trade Association and representing the best interests of the Independent Service Sector alongside the needs of the Manufacturers and the end users of Domestic Appliances in the UK. During my tenure as Chairman, I sat on the government lead body as an Industry Advisor for the development of National Vocational Qualifications to improve standards and regulate engineer competency

Living and racing in Europe as a competitive racing cyclist, I competed mainly in one day events with the occasional stage race in the Summer months and on the indoor tracks in the Winter. Belgium and Holland provide the toughest bike racing environment in the world and although I raced with a Dutch sponsored team and earned enough from the racing to live, I was never the strongest. However, as an experience to develop my outlook, character and resolve, it was an invaluable period.

Completed a full apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer and attained my City & Guilds qualification as an Engineering Craftsman to become a qualified production engineer. The job was to build and test automatic wrapping machines for the Bakery and Confectionery industries. This comprised of starting from an initial sub frame, building the machine, adjusting settings to wrap patterns, final commissioning for delivery to end users.
