About John Montanari

In 2006, I co-founded The Kartal Distribution, an import and distribution business with the exclusive rights to introduce and distribute multiple premium international headwear and fashion accessory brands into Africa. Brand-building through sales and marketing was an important early priority, though I rapidly shifted my focus into building the robust operational systems - particularly in logistics and inventory management - that quickly became necessary for supporting The Kartal’s rapid growth. During this time, I began specialising in Lean management and organizational leadership, including an intensive practical course with Lean Institute Africa.As an outgrowth of my motivation to deliver excellence in operations and business strategy, I co-founded a high-level leadership and operations networking event, The Lean Coffee, where leaders from different industries gather monthly to share experiences and collaboratively workshop solutions to real-life operations and leadership challenges. We’ve since added a factory tour element to the meetings wherein we conduct site visits to see how other businesses are practically applying and also uniquely adapting lean methodology.
