Responsible for developing and validating complex chromatographic methods for analyzing pharmaceuticals compounds and their metabolites, evaluating data, operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments, interacting with clients, and writing technical protocols and reports. Within 6 months, I was managing a project billing ~$45,000/month.

While at EKI, I was primarily involved in litigation support, brownfield redevelopment, and regulatory compliance projects involving: the fate and transport of organic and inorganic chemicals in the environment; exploratory and statistical analysis of analytical and geochemical data; environmental sampling; the operation and monitoring of groundwater extraction and treatment systems; vapor intrusion assessments; and soil gas surveys. Brief descriptions of representative litigation support, brownfield redevelopment, and regulatory compliance projects I was involved with are provided below. - In a densely populated urban area, I led the development and implementation of an air monitoring strategy for a brownfield redevelopment project in which particulates, metals, volatile organic compounds and hydrogen sulfide emissions were monitored to meet both government regulations and risk-based goals at the site perimeter. Throughout the project, I was responsible for the review and statistical evaluation of the collected air monitoring data; based on this performance data, revised sampling requirements were adopted, with regulatory approval, for significant cost savings.- At a chemical plant impacted with extensive LNAPL and DNAPL plumes, I used chemical fingerprinting techniques to evaluate contaminant sources, analyzed the treatment efficiency of the installed pump and treat system, assisted with the compilation of a VOC air emissions inventory, and modeled the DNAPL plume using Environmental Visualization System Pro (EVS-Pro). - At a site impacted with pyrite cinders, volatile organic compounds, and other residues from a long history of chemical manufacturing, I assisted in the preparation of a human health risk assessment by evaluating vapor intrusion and leaching to groundwater pathways to support the development of risk-based remediation goals for the site.

During my doctoral studies, I helped develop and teach an environmental analytical methods class at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Topics included environmental sampling, sample preparation (extraction, concentration, derivatization, and cleanup), and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) methods. Techniques such as gas and liquid chromatography and a variety of analytical detectors (e.g., mass spectrometers) commonly used in environmental analyses were also covered.

In the course of my doctoral research into the occurrence and fate of emerging contaminants in water, wastewater, and water reuse systems, I gained experience with common environmental microbiological procedures (PCR and FISH) and a variety of analytical measurement techniques. During my studies, I was responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting sample preparation equipment and a variety of analytical instruments, including HPLCs with UV-VIS and fluorescence detectors and GCs equipped with FID, ECD, MS, and MS/MS detectors.
