Managing Director And Co-FounderIot Security Foundation Sep 2015 - PresentAs the mission leader, I am responsible for driving the ever-evolving and progressive programme of work that is required to help make the IoT safer and more secure. As part of this, I work collaboratively with international stakeholders from industry, academia, governments, institutions and standards organisations. I am also responsible for all aspects of our business operations including revenue generation, marketing, programme development and working with the Executive Steering Board on strategic matters.ABOUT: The IoT Security Foundation is a not-for-profit membership organisation with over 150 companies and professionals that collaborate to secure the Internet of Things and 'make it safe to connect'. When it comes to cybersecurity, 'the need is now' hence we focus on best practices for producers and users of IoT technology and we also collaborate on projects with next-generation technology to advance and automate security. This naturally flows into standardisation efforts and regulation. We think of this as #bestpractice to #nextpractice.See https://www.iotsecurityfoundation.org (community and best practice) and https://manysecured.net (open standards next practice) #IoT #IoTSecurity #IoTCyberSecurity #SupplyChainOfTrust -
Chief Operating OfficerTechworks Mar 2020 - PresentGbTechWorks is the go-to deep tech association of the UK. It is the legal entity behind a portfolio of grassroots technology and engineering communities covering automotive electronics innovation, IoT cybersecurity, semiconductor manufacturing, microelectronics design and innovation, power electronics and skills.I lead the IoT Security Foundation and perform as COO across the TechWorks group - supporting the CEO and fellow network directors. See https://www.techworks.org.ukI sit on the advisory board for the UK's Digital Security by Design initiative: https://www.dsbd.techI led the formation of Techworks-AI and hosted the launch event at Bletchley Park in April 2024 -
Vp Segment DevelopmentTechworks Feb 2015 - Sep 2015GbChallenge: the threat of IoT insecurity. Action: Created and built 'the home for IoT security' with an expert international community; With little prior knowledge of cyber-security, I researched the many issues with stakeholders and existing body of knowledge. The challenges are beyond merely technical and I identified this as a significant problem for industry, markets and society at a time when all the attention was on the potential of IoT (i.e. few were looking at the needs, many were talking about the innovation opportunities). Commencing the initiative, I ran the worlds first IoT Security Summit at Bletchley Park in May 2015 and thereafter pulled together key stakeholders to get working on addressing the wicked challenge of IoT insecurity. I then launched the Internet of Things Security Foundation (IoTSF) at Digital Catapult in London on Sept 23 2015. Our initial aim was to provide thought leadership, promote best practices, disseminate knowledge and raise standards in security through IoT supply chains. -
Vp MarketingNmi May 2014 - Feb 2015Livingston, Gb"A marketing sprint": Temporary secondment to undertake a focused review and development of NMI's long term strategy and near term communications activities. After many years of successful growth, NMI was faced with a problem of a diminishing customer base but also new possibilities. As a result of the work I carried out we changed our strategy to create a portfolio of brands serving specific technology market segments which could be managed in a modular, sustainable way. Each segment would have its own programme, activities and membership base yet could work synergistically with peers - I called this strategy "connected communities". This is the current operating model of TechWorks - the rebranded NMI.The strategy was originally unveiled at NMI's 2014 annual Industry Summit in London.Sub-elements of this role which supported the change in strategy included:Digital marketing review leading to an inbound content marketing approach. Brought a number of marketing operations capabilities in house to improve marketing performance and reduce costs. At the end of the marketing review I passed the reins over to the NMI marketing team and took on the role of VP Segment Development to commence work on the newest 'connected community' - today known as the IoT Security Foundation. -
Vp, Design Innovation SystemNmi Sep 2004 - May 2014Livingston, GbI created, managed and led a successful programme to support the UK's semiconductor industry covering electronic systems design innovation, R&D, Investment, Skills, Promotion and Advocacy. This resulted in significant business growth and performance: membership increase of more than 7 fold and sustainable funding through additional income streams.I lead the creation of, and then directed NMI's technical community networks spanning analogue and digital design, embedded software, design to manufacture and industrialisation disciplines (including DfX, quality and reliability), created our flagship conference (Future World Symposium at Lords 2010 / Wembley 2012 / Twickenham 2014). Areas of particular interest at the time included automotive electronics, internet of things, autonomous/intelligent systems, consumer and mobile.I am also honoured to have instigated the work on the UK Electronic Skills Foundation (https://www.ukesf.org/), recruited key staff, co-developed the model and secured early partners. I was also a judge for the scholar of the year award and an assessor for the Go4set Project "Our electronics environment" aimed at 12-14 year olds.I was sponsored by Government as a sole representative to promote the UK microelectronics industry in both Japan and USA.I served as a member of the management board of the South West Microelectronics iNet - a very successful 5 year, European funded programme, supporting innovation.I also lead the marketing strategy and communications plan for this business unit - which is why I was chosen to focus on the overall company strategy in my follow-on role.Marketing communications lead: On-line, print, electronic and social media including main website and micro-sites, newsletters, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. Creator and editor of the NMI Yearbook + delivered 3 supplements on UK industry in quality UK newspapers (Sunday Telegraph / Guardian). Managed the PR agency and sign-off on all announcements / public communications. -
