Moving to Florida in 2013 I found BWB to be my home. I learned and mastered each position their way. I have had extensive experience in managing, cooking, and customer service in the Deli and Catering business back on Long Island. At 22, I opened and ran my own delicatessen and catering business for a couple years.Working for the Jupiter location of Brooklyn Water Bagel I loved my job as the General Manager. I had a wonderful following of customers many of whom I am still in contact with. This career isn't for the faint of heart. The company had a $12/hr hourly employee pay cap. Only allowing for 1 or 2 employees to ever reach that mark. Our bakers we required to be in at 3:30 am 7 days a week. With the store open from 6-3 often the crew would not leave until 3:30-4 and mangers would be in the office till 4:30-5 on a regular basis, later when the company had us counting inventory on Sundays. This being said as the salaried General Manger of the location for 4.5 years I was working 60-75 hours a week every week for nearly 5 years. Every single aspect of operating the business was left on my personal shoulders. From placing help wanted ads, to interviewing, hiring, training, termination, menu development, marketing, customer service, inventory, wholesale responsibilities, delivering, ordering, sanitation, booking, etc. In the 4.7 years in that store I was the top producing store in the company. I did however deal with 3 ownership changes and 160 staffing changes. It is absolutely impossible to live anywhere near the store at the wages the company was willing to pay. It was heartbreaking to leave a job where my co-workers, bosses and customers became friends but it was time to leave the food industry.
