WorkFirst is a division of Easterseals Southern California that provides one-on-one, customized employment support services to individuals who are interested in finding and maintaining paid work or starting their own business, identifying each person’s talents, interests, goals and abilities in order to support him or her to find a job or business venture that can be fulfilling long-term. WorkFirst helps people enhance their economic self-sufficiency, self-esteem and participation in the community.

+ As a Case Manager I have seen the positive impact Trade Act provides the State of Oregon and our individual clients. As one of 21 Case Manager’s located at central office, I am responsible for navigating recipients through the program, ensuring they successfully complete their approved training plan and return to better paying and more fulfilling jobs. + Currently managing 15 clients in an approved training plan, with another 37 clients in different stages of the Trade Act process, I provide comprehensive assessment of each proposed and existing plan to withstand guideline scrutiny. + While reporting directly to the Trade Act Central Unit Manager, I am responsible for analyzing, researching and interpreting all aspects of our programs federal regulations and policies. Through this, I administrate all case noting, billing and communications pieces required of my clients and the programs guidelines.+ Raising literacy of Trade Act Services throughout Oregon, I work with community and agency partners (such as Unemployment and Oregon’s teaching and training institutions) to coordinate and improve planned services, and thus assisting my clients towards all appropriate career-planning tools.

+ Hired because of my experience in building relationships with business, in 24 months I have forged strong ties with over 150 small businesses in Deer Lodge County, providing strategic solutions, informing them of differing state and federal programs, while listening to them to find solutions for their needs.+ I have provided candidates for 175+ roles in the region.+ As the “face of employment” in the community, I have developed 30+ seminars, across multiple platforms, engaging students, business and organizational leaders, speaking to groups ranging from 3 to 300 people.+ Having researched the newest self-marketing tools, I have re-packaged 50+ resumes for individual candidates, while creating “cheat sheets” for personal use. I have also provided mock interviews, computer classes, cover letter education, social media instruction and other soft skills classes.+ I have developed 100+ job descriptions for clients to post on our site.+ I work closely with Veterans to ensure each individual was provided full access to their available options. Keeping up with laws and practices is a key aspect of this part of my role.
