In addition to exposing students to the ways in which pop culture influences and dictates our perceptions of ourselves and each other by examining race, gender, class, sexual orientation, physical ability, and age through a feminist lens, I also taught them how to write structurally sound scholarly argumentative essays. I coordinated the 2009-2010 annual Student Literary Competition for the prestigious League for Innovation. It was an absolute privilege to work on this project, which allowed me to utilize my strengths: communication/managing people (hired judges, all of whom were well-known regional writers; supervised student-led and produced video interviews with judges; successfully executed contracts between Lane Community College and judges; and effectively communicated with 20 colleges across the U.S. and Canada to ensure students met submission deadlines), overseeing creative projects (supervised the conception, design, layout, and publishing of a website for the competition and a print anthology showcasing the winners' work); and managing budgets.
