In-house corporate finance role advising AIB senior management on strategic transactions, acquisitions and disposals and other initiatives relating to the bank's Balance Sheet and capital structure to enhance viability and profitability.I led the team responsible for conducting all sales of AIB's non-core loans. The successful execution of these projects materially contributed to the achievement of the bank's strategy to reduce its non-core loan book by €20.5bn. The team undertook loan disposals across a wide range of geographies (Ireland, Europe, US, Middle East, Asia Pacific) and asset classes (real estate, corporate, infrastructure & energy, structured securities, performing and non performing). A key part of the role was managing relationships with potential investors such as hedge and PE funds and with the intermediary community (financial and legal).

Although based in Auckland, much of my time was spent working with clients in Sydney and Melbourne or on trans-Tasman projects due to the clear leading position of UBS in the Australian corporate finance market. Responsibilities included identification of transaction opportunities for UBS clients in New Zealand and Australia, due diligence, day-to-day management of transactions and negotiations with counterparts to those transactions. I worked on projects in sectors such as airlines, airports, wine, building materials and retail.

Following completion of Goldman Sachs’ graduate program I took up a role supporting our oil traders in the commodities trading division of the bank. My main role was to calculate the daily profit or loss of the traders. These traders were involved in the physical oil markets and in the derivatives markets for swaps, futures and options. As such, I spent a considerable amount of time with the traders on a daily basis in order to fully understand their products, markets and trading positions
