About Johnny Chankhamany

Johnny Chankhamany is a Executive Director, Strategic Partnerships and Ecosystem Development at Builders VC. He possess expertise in investments, private equity, venture capital, equities, financial modeling and 44 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "akamai" (adj) aka·mai | \ ä-kä-ˈmī\ | means SMART, INTELLIGENT JC adds dimension to this word... Herewith, my unsolicited, overdue review of my former colleague to call attn to his invaluable good works in advancing the educations and career opportunity sets of Hawaii's youth. It's been years since I met and, then, later, served with JC on the leadership team at AKAMAI.  I've noted, up close and recently from afar, with much admiration and appreciation, JC's steadfast devotion to his charges – the AKAMAI students – and to the community, and his deeper development as a leader and cultivator of talents. Once, way back, in a spontaneous moment of exchange, with a near detectable flicker of emotion, JC expressed to me, "You know, I know it, Ben, I get it: The chance for me has passed. I know I am not going to get to realize my dreams and make it to the big time, but," he paused, then formed his next words with memorable impact, "I am going to do everything I can to make sure the same doesn't happen to these kids. They are going to get their chance, their shot, at getting to where I couldn't." Fast forward... JC's accomplished what he set out to do: Help enhance and improve the lives and careers of Hawaii's young and aid them in their shared ambition of gaining knowledge, honing their skill-sets and refining their abilities at performing high finance - all towards obtaining seats at some of the most reputable, desirable trading desks, banks, financial firms, and VC / PE shops around the country.  Most pros are reviewed based on their scores, aptitudes and/or accomplishments, their customers' satisfaction ratings, sales numbers or (esp true in finance) by their P&Ls. JC occupies one of those critical (oft times thankless) roles in society as volunteer educator, coach, teacher-trainer-tutor and whose life's work can be adjudged, objectively and subjectively, by his produce, and in both qualitative as well as quantitative terms; Ultimately, JC's 'score' & 'impact' are near immeasurable w/r/t the lives of many. So..., Q: JC's results? A: The success of the young AKAMAI women & men who've joined the workforce, at some firm, in some position, that likely would not have otherwise been available to them but for their AKAMAI experience, skills and knowledge, principally thanks to JC. Suffice to say, I'm v proud of him and his accomplishments. And, ofc, of what Louis Perez, JC, Colin and others first built and began. As the cal catches my eye, it dawns on me, we celebrate a local hero/leader this week. Father's Day upon us again, too. These may have prompted me to think of JC and to write this– in many ways, JC serves as backup, wkend, afterschoolhours dad to so many AKAMAI kids. I can think of no more fitting honor, regard and or recognition (esp relative to this annual remembrance of a significant parent figure in all our lives, and a Hawaiian hero in some of our lives) for what Johnny has so selflessly contributed to so many others."
