I'm from Detroit originally, from a family of auto industry assembly line workers who were from families of coal miners, farmers, and brick masons across Britain, Canada, and Pennsylvania. My paternal grandfather broke through into management as an accomplished engineer and inventor, earned a career at the side of Henry Ford II as an executive. His generosity made possible my private Catholic education - still the greatest gift I have ever received. My mom worked as the Church bookkeeper when I was growing up and I owe my early Faith formation, along with most everything else, to her.I wasn't a star athlete or stellar student growing up but I always loved service and leadership. I was on the student council in high school and in college was president of my fraternity before serving as student body Vice President and President, consecutively. I've served on at least one board of directors every year since I was 20 years old, and now have served on several national governing boards. Not much has changed in my approach: I love coming together with a governance/management team, casting a bold, aspirational vision, laying out a limited-term strategic plan to realize the vision, and then get to work on the operational decisions that will make it happen. I've been at every level and every stage of the process outlined above many times - and the lessons I've learned are countless.After law school I spent most of my career working in the Ave Maria Foundation family of nonprofits founded by iconic entrepreneur and corporate chairman Tom Monaghan. My work on the senior executive management teams at Ave Maria School of Law and Legatus are professional highlights. Today I focus my efforts on leading the Diocesan Fiscal Management Conference, an international professional association of Catholic executives; and the Catholic Finance Association, the membership organization for Catholic financial professionals, broadly defined. I serve on boards, write and speak occasionally, help my friends with their businesses, and consult on a very limited basis with individuals and organizations I am particularly passionate about.In 2006 I met Jennifer, the love of my life, and we have been married for 15 years. We are raising Rosemary and Luke Abraham together in a rural area northeast of Philadelphia.
