About Johnny O'Hara

I love to tell stories. Here’s mine. My career has spanned the worlds of advertising, film, publishing, theatre, digital media and branded entertainment. I’ve had feature films in competition at the 2008 and 2010 Sundance Film Festival, winning the audience award for best documentary in 2008. Another of my films premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. I’ve been nominated for an Emmy, shortlisted for an Oscar, won the George Foster Peabody Award and was nominated by the Writers Guild of America for best documentary screenplay.I was born and raised in New York City, the son of Irish immigrants, and thus was geographically and genetically destined to be a raconteur. I went to an all boys Catholic high school where I was elected class president by promising to make the school coed. It was my first successful advertising campaign and sparked a life long passion for boldly communicating ideas. After earning a BFA in communication design from Pratt Institute. I started my creative career working as both art director and copywriter for legendary New York adman Jerry Della Femina. After ten years of creating print and television advertising for major brands at several New York agencies I became the first creative director of U.S. Interactive, a pioneering digital advertising agency. I chose next to focus on writing and filmmaking. I turned an obsession with Elvis Presley into my first book, ELVIS & YOU, published by Penguin. I moved to Los Angeles and wrote comedy screenplays and documentaries while working as creative director of Digital Neural Axis, a post production VFX company that also developed trailers, documentaries, and TV projects with a focus on the LOHAS ( Lifestyles Of Health and Sustainability) demographic.Today, under the banner of REALGOODSTORY PRODUCTIONS, I continue to develop a wide range of media projects designed to either make you think, make you laugh, make you cry or make you buy. What’s your story? Can I help you tell it?

FOLLOWING THE FOOTSTEPS OF SAINT LUCY is a superhero movie, a different kind of superhero. A real one. She doesn’t wear a cape. But she does wear a costume. When running in ultramarathons, often in extreme heat and humidity, she always wears the heavy black habit of her order to call attention to her cause. The film follows Sister Mary Beth Lloyd as she travels around the world to visit her various missions, learns of their needs and the problems they face and then returns to the United States and does what ever is necessary to raise the funds needed to solve the problem. When she is not in some remote corner of the world, Sister Beth is based at the Vatican the headquarters of the Fillipini Sisters in Rome where her time is divided between prayer, speaking engagements at schools and churches and planning her next fund raising venture. FOLLOWING THE FOOTSTEPS OF SAINT LUCY is a story of an ordinary person doing extraordinary things. She is changing the world one child at a time. She is an example of a life selflessly devoted to serving the less fortunate of the world. What kind of person chooses this path and what can we learn from them about what it means to live a fulfilling life? The film gives us something to aspire to and forces us to examine our own lives.
