The EPC is the voice of the UK's Engineering academics, representing over 8,000 individuals and 85 universities to the highest levels of government, industry, and the engineering and education sector. During my time as Chief Executive, I have transformed the EPC in terms of its finances (building up healthy reserves), its activities and its impact. The membership is now connected through the Engineering Academics Network, which is based on the new, custom-built, digital platform EPC Online. Our sphere of influence has expanded through working closely with other organisations and stakeholders, leading policy and practice on engineering education, ethics, sustainability, skills pipelines, social mobility, research, and industrial collaboration.

Push is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to support the choices and skills of school-leavers and students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. It achieves this though one of the UK's largest outreach programmes visiting hundred of schools, colleges and universities every year – often working with higher education institutions, charities and employers – to deliver an innovative, engaging and informative programme of presentations, workshops and training. This work is supported by Push online presence at www.push.co.uk, which is one of the UK's leading independent guides to universities and student life. This involves a massive project of original research involving visits to universities across the UK. We then publish this information in a form that is uncompromising, accessible and appealing to our visitors (mostly prospective students aged 17 to 19). Push is renowned for telling it like it is and injecting unpatronising wit into what is all too often a dry subject.As well as containing extensive unique and detailed content, the site uses innovative technology to make the process of finding a suitable university easier and more accurate.Push.co.uk has over 50,000 unique visitors a month and over 40,000 members. In 2008, we were awarded a National Careers Award (14-19 category) .

The Fair Access Coalition is the group of heads of leading third sector organisations working to support young people's opportunities into and through higher education. We work collectively to be the voice of practitioners in access, influencing government and the higher education sector. Through our work with successive ministers we have directly impacted policy on admissions, funding reform and qualifications. The group's secretariat is generously provided by Impetus and the other Co-Chair is Rae Tooth.

I offer freelance consultancy to a range of clients including universities, media organisations, charities and policy bodies. These include a range of projects relating to:• Provision of student information, marketing and recruitment• Employability skills• Strategic communications• Communications skills • Editorial projects• Web usability and digital project developmentEditorial: In the past I have done a diverse range of freelance media work ranging from writing and editing a number of books to conducting PR campaigns that have achieved widespread and front page coverage for my clients. As I am usually too busy to taken on freelance work of this sort these days, but it is always worth asking and I can often put clients in touch with other freelancers – many of whom I have used myself – and whose work I would be willing to oversee if required.

An independent member of the Commission, convened by Res Publica, chaired by former Universities & Science Minister the Right Hon Chris Skidmore MP, exploring how lifelong education can be better supported and how it can better serve the nation's labour market and social needs.In March 2023, the Commission became a permanent body with the formation of the Lifelong Education Institute. I became a member of its Advisory Committee, which exists to oversee its work and strategic direction and continue to support the Institute in this role.

The Higher Education Academy champions the highest standards of teaching and learning in universities and colleges across the UK and internationally. Through research, professional frameworks and leadership development, the HEA is a key player in ensuring the quality of our HE sector.As a member of the Board of Directors, I am responsible for oversight of the work of the excellent HEA executive team and helping to forge strategy for the future.I also serve on the HEA's Finance Committee, which oversees the business and commercial activities of the Academy. Prior to that, I served for three years as a member of the HEA's Audit Committee, which involves assuring the sound management of the Academy's finances and risk profile.

Responsible for editorial direction and content, including design and brand. During my time at Real World, it has moved from a shrinking business to a distinctive cross-media magazine, published in four separate language editions across Europe.

As Development Director, I led the the day-to-day fundraising campaign that generated sufficient support from individual donations and charitable grants to establish annual scholarships for students of Creative Writing at the UEA who otherwise could not afford to pursue their studies. The Trust continues to support students today.

Member of the senior management team for one of the UK's leading independent television and media production companies. Role included developing all new areas of business and adding value to existing activities. My achievements included developing a number of new factual and educational productions and establishing an additional revenue stream through a new approach to assets (ownership of rights and management of archive).

Developed new programme/series ideas and formats in a variety of genres (ranging from educational, factual and current affairs to entertainment, natural history and investigative journalism). Put together deals to make these productions happen in terms of finances, rights and human resources.
