After completing medical training at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine/ATSU, I completed a dual ACGME/AOA-accredited Family Medicine internship at St. Anthony Hospital, an 800-bed Level II Trauma Community Hospital, in Oklahoma City. When I was offered a General Surgery residency position in Kirksville, MO, I accepted the offer but was required to take a year off prior to the commencement of that program. During that year, I accepted a staff position at Northeast Tribal Health System in Miami, OK. Several months into that position, the medical director became ill and was forced to resign. I was promoted to the position of acting Medical Director, a position I held until my resignation at the end of the year. During my time as Medical Director, I was instrumental in establishing many new policies and procedures at the clinic that have earned accolades within the IHS, and as Physician Head of the Diabetic Committee, assisted with programs that earned our region the rank of second most effective Diabetic Clinic within the Indian Health Service. After leaving NTHS, I began my residency in General Surgery, but quickly realized that I missed the continuity of Primary Care, so after three months I converted back to Family Medicine and entered the Family Medicine/OMT program at NRMC, where I studied Family Medicine and trained in endoscopy, earning Osteopathic Family Medicine/OMT board certification in 2009. I am currently employed within the Indian Health Service stationed at Claremore Indian Hospital, where I provide chronic care for an adult population with a wide spectrum of illnesses, and staff an urgent care clinic, in addition to performing colonoscopies and EGDs. In 2010, I began as Team Leader for the IPC (Improving Patient Care) initiative, which is an intentional effort to establish the Indian Health Medical Home.
