My Air Force career had me managing $500 million budgets, which requires a certain mindset. I embedded continuous risk identification and mitigation, cost control, and long-term thinking into teams to increase the effectiveness of planning and execution.♦ I'm increasing profitability and scalability in systems. Two of my knacks – although my wife might call them character flaws – are I'm highly observant and inquisitive. I notice things that other people miss and I see what's different. On its own, this is a valuable skill, but I also seek to understand why. By getting to the root cause of problems, I can apply critical thinking to decide whether or not the ROI to fix them is sufficient. ♦ And lastly, I foster collaboration and I influence, build consensus, motivate, mentor, and lead with integrity. I successfully led 12,000 people through one of the Air Force's largest change initiatives in recent history, and I did it by establishing trust and credibility, and by over-communicating.
