Responsible for the future of Sauce. Set the internal and external vision and strategy for our second wave of growth. Led M&A for four acquisitions, from initial market analysis and thesis development to leading the diligence and final board approval. Re-imagined Sauce Labs to restore growth in the changing test automation market. Led an engineering team of 150 as we modernized and rebuilt the platform, including a re-architecture and moving to GCP, creating new AI/ML features, and opening the platform to new open source testing frameworks. Led the technology and market strategy and worked with the board to develop an M&A plan (which I then executed).

I worked directly with some of the best quants at the best hedge funds in the world, and led our team of machine learning and software engineers in the quest to build a new quant coding language and data infrastructure.

As a Sr Director at Symantec I built a team of 35 engineers and architects who invented and delivered the core technologies and services in mobile security. The core components, cloud services, and strategy that I set are still driving Symantec’s mobile strategy.Earlier I managed a broader R&D team at Symantec, focusing on “Horizon 3” projects. An example from that team is Project Ozone, which was initiated by an internal paper (co-written by me) that concluded that "the cloud" would force Symantec to move up the stack and provide their security and storage value at both the application layer and in the cloud rather than at the OS or datacenter.I also spent two years as Director of IP Strategy at Symantec, reporting to the Deputy GC. I was responsible for analyzing the defensive and business value of our patent portfolio and then assessing where to increase/decrease our filings, as well as gaming out IP lawsuit scenarios.Previous roles in the software industry (at Symantec, Microsoft, VERITAS, and private consulting) include product management, business development and alliances, deal development and negotiation, litigation support, product marketing, product strategy, and competitive strategy. For example, I worked as part of a small team tasked by the CEO (John Thompson, later the Chairman of the Board at Microsoft) to protect Symantec’s multi-billion dollar anti-virus business from Microsoft’s entry into that market, as well as changes to the Windows OS that threatened to disintermediate our products.

Taught three courses per semester on the history of philosophy to undergraduates. While I’m interested in the entire history of philosophy, I particularly enjoy Aristotle, Plato, Kant, phenomenology, and some post-structuralism.
