My roles have been varied: businessman/entrepreneur, patient advocate, psychotherapist, mediator, management consultant, scientist, academic, cancer survivor, full-time palliative caregiver, social activist, author.A socially responsible entrepreneur, I have served as CEO, Chair & board member, strategic/investment and management advisor for NASDAQ, TSX and TSX-V and private companies. I've helped raise millions of dollars and worked extensively helping to build sustainable and eco-friendly businesses for disenfranchised, and that support community-based economic development. I was principal advisor for infrastructure renewal at the Canadian House of Commons, Supreme Court of Canada, Canadian Commercial Corporation, Medical Research Council of Canada, Immigration Refugee Board, and others. Involved with indigenous people dates from 1968. Coordinated the Inuit Land Claim, the basis for Canada's territory Nunavut, gave strategic business and therapeutic advice to many nations, cross-cultural collaboration and recently supported culturally-based program to treat trauma. I also have a family connection.I have been a psychotherapist and psychedelic therapist in group, individual and cross-cultural situations since the early 1970s; have been a participant psychopharmacological researcher for over 50 years. I co-founded LSTN (Life-Saving Therapies Network), a non-profit, patient-led network focused on getting people with lethal diseases faster access to better treatments. As a volunteer, I have fed the disadvantaged, served on the Research Advisory Committee of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, and the Cancer Care Advisory Committee of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. "Journeys in Cancerland", my book with Lisa Newman, was published in 2012. Articles have appeared in peer-reviewed scientific journals (oncology; drug regulations; psychopharmacology, behaviour), as well as magazines and newspapers (social policy/commentary, healthcare policy, op-eds, thought pieces). I am an FCMC (Fellow, Institute of Certified Management Consultants, Ontario); B.A. (Psychology), M.A. (Psychology); A.B.D. (Experimental Psychology/ Psychopharmacology - all but final dissertation defense); Ph.D. (Psychology and Community Services). Co-founder/president of Rochdale College, co-founder Blue Skies Festival, worked on Greenpeace's Save the Whales campaign. I have built two houses, mostly with my own hands; was a back-to-the-lander. Mostly, though, I am simply trying to live with loving energy and contribute to the mental and ecological well being of the planet.
