The Cherokee Historical Association was created in 1949 to perpetuate the history and culture of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. We produce the long-running, outdoor drama “Unto These Hills” and operate a living history site called the Oconaluftee Indian Village.

The Cherokee Boys Farm Club was established at the Cherokee Boarding School in 1932. Two years later the Cherokee Motor Club was founded. When the Boarding School closed in 1954, the two Clubs were continued by the Cherokee Day School. The Clubs were combined in 1958 and continued to grow. On May 4, 1964, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians incorporated the Cherokee Boys Club as a non-profit self-supporting, Tribal Enterprise.The Club earns its revenue by providing services for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Performance of these services provides full-time employment for our staff and on-the-job training for Cherokee Youth. All funds earned by the Club are used for operational expenses, repayment of debt incurred for purchase of Club buildings and equipment, and for projects for Cherokee Youth.

The Institute of Outdoor Drama is a public service agency of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. It is the only organization in the U.S. providing national leadership in fostering artistic and managerial excellence and expansion of the outdoor drama movement through training, research and advisory programs. The Institute serves as a national clearinghouse for more than 70 constituent theatre companies across the nation.

The North Carolina Travel Industry Association was established in 1955 by then Governor Luther Hodges, and given a mission to consolidate resources and promote our great State. To this day the Association remains open to anyone interested in becoming a member, but most are local businesses or statewide organizations that thrive on the tourism economy.
