With nearly 50 years of investment management experience I recently became disgruntled. Disgruntled? Yes, things are a mess on many fronts. In my profession, investment advice and management, things have gotten even worse than they were in 2008. Our profession is facing a identity change!Perhaps, like I, you are also wondering whether your financial advisor has your best interests in mind. Is he or she acting in a fiduciary capacity? Where was your financial advisor in 2008, when you needed sound, unbiased advice to weather the financial crisis? Where was your financial advisor in 2009, when prices were at their lows? Did you miss the recovery? Did you allow normal psychological factors interfere with your judgement? Perhaps you need an advisor who acts as a fiduciary first and not as a salesperson. Unfortunately, over the past decade or so, investing has changed dramatically and has become a "loser's game". If you haven't read "Winning the Loser's Game" by Charlie Ellis, you may not realize that you may be paying too much for investment advice and on the most part the advice is misleading. The book is an eye opener.I have been associated with "active" investment management since I graduated from Columbia University in 1966 with an MBA in Finance.
