Legal Experience: John Matheson is a licensed attorney before the Massachusetts SJC, U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Since graduating from Rutgers University in 2001, he has practiced trial law in the areas of wrongful death, third party liability, personal injury and business law. Attorney Matheson has obtained several million dollars for his clients, including some of the state’s highest settlements and verdicts by a sole practitioner. In 2009, he obtained a $1.74 Million recovery for the victim of an industrial accident with third-party liability. In 2014, he obtained a $1.8 Million recovery for the family of a wrongful death victim.Public Service: John served on the city council in his hometown of Malden, Massachusetts from January, 2012 through January, 2020, as Ward 3 Counselor, Counselor at-Large, and Council President. Malden is a community of over 65,000 residents with a budget of $179 Million. John sponsored Malden as a Tree City USA and helped protect land from over-development, including the former Malden Hospital site.John is also past President and Board Chairman of The Bread of Life, Inc. During his service he helped The Bread of Life move to a new facility and grow its distribution to 1 Million meals per year. John's memberships also include the Massachusetts Freemasons and Shriners, which operate charitable causes such as the Children’s Burn Center and Orthopedic Center.
