The Cytogenetic Lab: performs conventional cytogenetic testing or routine chromosome analysis, sometimes referred to as karyotyping, and is provided for a variety of clinical applications. These types of studies are utilized to detect numerical and/or structural chromosome abnormalities in metaphase cells. Constitutional studies are employed for the diagnoses of the commonly known congenital conditions, such as Down syndrome, but are also employed in numerous other clinical situations, such as infertility.- Performed conventional chromosomal analyses after receiving blood, bone marrow, and tissue samples.- Performed cell cultures, chromosomal harvesting and microscopic analysis during karyotype production.- Conducted molecular cytogenetic testing such as fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) for patient assessment.- Collaborated with the team to recruit and hire new lab technicians. Also, trained all new technicians in the use of specific lab equipment.
Our lab is interested in the development and function of neural circuits. Specifically, we ask: what factors affect development (and therefore, function) of neural circuitry during CNS development, and, once the neurons and connections to their downstream targets are in place, what factors affect recruitment of individual neurons into a circuit?- Conducted lab experiments investigating the function of neural circuits during central nervous system development.- Maintained and cleaned all lab equipment to comply with safety regulations.
