The Tale of TSGAllen Revell is the man behind TSG. I had my first meaningful meeting with Allen in early 2008. A visit to the office was enough to convince me that TSG had an interesting piece of kit that could do some excellent thingsHeavyDeck (HD )is an elevated platform system that can level out a hill. It can also take serious loadings up to 19kN per m2TSG’s history originated as a Marquee company that evolved into a significant supplier to Tesco.They needed a minimum 10kN to deal with the fridge systems and rack loadings.I immediately felt that the HeavyDeck system could be translated to the events industry and was keen to get involved. That feeling proved correct, and during 2009, I introduced TSG to some of the players in global sports and event overlay.In 2009, the HeavyDeck system was picked as a good solution for the opening of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. The system performed well in a challenging project and was now proven in a new industry.By this time the London Olympic Games were well on the way and the organising committee, LOCOG had a problem to solve in Greenwich Park. The park had been chosen for the equestrian venue. The single problem they needed to solve was that the field of play happened to be on a hill.. This was not particularly conducive with show jumping and dressage competition.Over the next year, I worked on securing the contractsThe TSG HeavyDeck system proved ideal. The result was that TSG installed 10,000m2 of field of play (at nearly 4m high in places) and a further 3000m2 of final warm up. We also secured the transition deck for the triathlon and the back of house training at the Wembley.Contract values were around £7m.I have kept in touch and still consult on their media content and have an interest in their future projects. TSG will continue to work on global events in Sochi and will play a big part in converting a stadium for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Eve Trakway is all about temporary access. The fact was that Rick and Chris were friendly guys on a mission, and Eve was an easy company to join. In real terms, the move did me a world of good and was the beginning of a new lease of life. The fit at Eve was not exact, and I ended up in a role of business development and project evaluation. By way of example, I spent two weeks in South Africa in 2008 to evaluate the options for company participation in the World Cup 2010. A further role was to work with international clients interested in Eve’s systems. This proved particularly useful for developing relationships around the world that are still active today.In the latter stages of my time with Eve, I aimed to be more independent in my work, and this led to the formation of International Facilities and Sourcing LimitedIn 2013 Eve was sold to A-Plant for £28m. It was good to have been a part of that.

It is always exciting to be a part of a start up business. In this case, Rola-Trac was at the forefront of new design technology for temporary floor systems, supplying UK Ministry of Defence and event sector.The development of new products in Supa-Trac Alli-Trac and finally I-Trac took the business to new levels of capabilityFor the first couple of years, I focused on sales. Our very first was for 1500m2 of kit. The second customer happened to be the ministry of defence, and they went for a slightly higher quantity of 100,000m2I developed a rental department that delivered equipment all over Europe.Rola-Trac products, as a result, became synonymous with successful ground protection and have been used by major events and concert promoters all over the world. For a few years, I lived out of a bag during the summers, delivering shows for Elton Jon, U2 and Bon Jovi. Not bad fun really.The company had its challenges and relationships within the business were on reflection interesting. In 2007, the owner of the company elected to sell off the rental business & I went to the new company, ending my direct association with the business.

The Metropolitan Police ForceEnlisting with the Met Police in January 1983. I passed out of Hendon Police Training College in July 1983 & my first posting was to Tower Bridge Police Station in Bermondsey, South East London. Based upstairs at the station were the world-famous "Sweeney" who used to try to control the prevalence of armed robberies that seemed to be expertly carried out from the area at Bermondsey. We called it the University of Armed RobberyHaving completed a two-year probationary at Rotherhithe police station, I successfully applied to join newly formed Territorial Support Group. Broadwater Farm Riot happened on the 6th October 1985. As a result of that mauling. The Territorial support group (TSG) focused on two areas that were chalk and cheese. One was surveillance that involved sneaking around following people; the other was public order duties that led to constantly working in central London and risky parts of townThe time spent in the police force in London was both interesting and exciting. The last four years with TSG particularly so. We worked on drugs operations counter- terrorism operations and public order operations of a grand scale such as rioting, football control crowd control and central London reserveIn June 1989, I went to Bali and met a lot of people traveling around the world. I decided that this was the way to go. On my return to London, I asked to take a sabbatical. They said no, so I sold the house and the car and presently resigned from the Metropolitan police in September 1989

In 1979, I joined the Bally Shoe company in Norwich. An experience that gave an interesting insight into what factory life was like in the seventies. It was also a time to discover what I most likely did not want to do for the rest of my career.Bally is a fashion shoe manufacturer and has an HQ in Switzerland. The City of Norwich had a long tradition in shoe manufacture, and so Bally set up in the city in the fifties.Footwear companies had been around since 1799 – a time when the Norwich city centre was full of factories – the shoe industry and breweries were among the biggest.The Bally factory employed hundreds of people, but they ran out of space and invested in a purpose-built high-tech £500,000 unit on a seven-and-a-half acre site where they could expand in 1969.I worked first as a trainee manager. During that time, I gained experience in purchasing and then IT. My final position was working in Systems operation of a System 34 IBM mainframe. It was interesting work and night shifts became a new experience. The call to public service led to my eventual departure
