John has been involved in transport for 39 years most recently as Contracts Manager at Strathclyde Partnership for Transport with responsibility for social needs transport including arranging school transport for eleven local authorities, demand responsive transport and community and health transport. He left in December 2009 and since then has worked as an independent consultant and has volunteered with a community transport operator. John worked at SPT from 1986 initially as Head of the Concessionary Travel Unit and subsequently as a Public Transport Officer for Inverclyde and providing policy and IT development support to the bus operations department. He then became responsible for all agency functions of SPT working for a range of public bodies and private sector companies requiring public transport contract procurement and management support. John been responsible for the introduction of extensive ICT systems to support contract management and analysis. He has extensive experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders from young people to chief officers and major companies.He has extensive connections with public transport, education, social care, health and third sector organisations. He served as chairman of the ATCO Scottish region School Transport Special Interest Group, was a member of the Joint Improvement Teams Integrated Transport with Care project team,and chaired the Glasgow Integrated Transport with Care projects IT subgroup. He has spoken at many conferences both in the UK and abroad on the subjects of DRT and school transport.
