Our Inaugural Season was Nominated for EIGHT 2017 OnStage Theatre Awards, including Best Overall Season and TWENTY-ONE 2017 Broadwayworld Awards, including Best Local Theatre CompanyFrom the ashes of The Bijou Actors Guild, the former resident troupe of The Bijou Theatre, my wife Tanya and I joined several other Bijou artists and employees to form VTC. In order to continue the Guild's mission to stage edgy, thought-provoking productions in an environment where people of all race, gender, sexual orientation and/or religious belief will feel welcome.​When The Bijou's management announced its unexpected departure in July 2016, we knew we needed to find a space to stage at least part of our intended season.​There was also a desire among some of our colleagues to continue the community and educational outreach we had begun, and to create some sort of working opportunities for the talented Housatonic Community College theatre students who were currently part of The Guild .The Bijou Actors Guild was re-branded as The Vagabond Theatre Company of Greater Bridgeport, and we staged our first independent production in the Gonzaga Auditorium on the campus of Fairfield University the following October. Because of the difficulty in working on a College campus, we started to look for a more viable temporary location to stage the next two shows on our schedule. In December we located the answer, The Warehouse Black Box Theatre in The Performing Arts Center of CT in Trumbull.We will be staging our season's shows here while we search for a new permanent home. All the while, we will continue fostering new talent through workshops and readings of new works.As VTC will continue the mindset we started at The Bijou, and we look forward to providing an alternative theatre choice to the people of Greater Bridgeport for many years to come.

I did an early iteration of this show with Joe, he played Clarence and I played Harry Bailey, about 20 years ago, (scroll down for details) and it just struck me as a perfect fit for the space and for the holiday audiences.Many thanks to Joe are deserved for letting us make some tweaks to the Radio Actor characters and the setting to make it uniquely our own.This unique take on the beloved, heartwarming story of George Bailey and the granting of his bleak and desperate Christmas wish by his guardian angel, Clarence Oddbody, shifts the the story of George Bailey's bleak glimpse into the "What If" from the silver screen to the WBFR live coast-to-coast broadcast from The Bijou, Christmas Eve 1946. We put five actors are at mics, broadcasting The WBFR Playhouse Of The Air in front of a live studio audience, performing as dozens of characters, accompanied on stage by live sound effects. Tonight’s broadcast is a special, coast-to-coast airing of It's a Wonderful LifeThe cast is a bunch of old friends and family (Juan Ayala, Betzabeth Castro, John T Lizsewski, Rachel Schulte and Ian C Smith, with Eric Nesmith as the Foley Artist) as we wanted to make it a celebration for us as much as it will be for the audienceWe also got Joe to come do an audience talk back that turned into a lot of just us laughing on stage.

Then turn it all on its ear and shake it up with an unhealthy dose of angst. This show is what comes spilling out.When his dog dies from rabies, (yes, that dog) CB begins to ponder the question of an existence of the afterlife. He turns to his friends in an effort to find an answer. Sadly they are of no help.But a chance meeting with , an artistic kid & the target of his friend group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind. It sets in motion a relationship that will push CB to his very limits. All the hallmarks, struggles and pitfalls of High School (drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, sexual identity) collide as the play careens to an end that's both haunting and hopeful.

True Crime interview and re-enactment show on Investigation Discovery

Played a smart-ass gunslinger in a band of outlaws out for justice (or is it revenge? Hell, why not both?) in this short western, currently in post-production. An amazingly talented group of artists was compiled to make this film, and I'm dying to see the finished product.

Had a blast playing an inept, bumbling paparazzi in this indie sci-fi/political satire.They're still filming on location as I type this, in Utah this week I think, but you can check the IMDB page to see its current status and planned release if you want to see it once they're done.

Reteamed with a couple of friends to help one (Michael Acciarino whom I've know since he was in HS) with his Senior Thesis Film for Hofstra's Film School. His thesis subject was Mike Leigh's approach to filmmaking: Character Based Improvisation (CBI). Basically the director meets with his actors with no script or other details in place. The actor improvises a character based on his own personal experiences with limited input from the director. As these sessions progress, the director incorporates details from other actors into each of the others' sessions. Eventually they all meet on one large session, improv a scenario from the director, until a full narrative arc is realized. The director takes his notes from this series of rehearsals, constructs a script which the cast memorizes and the film is shot.It's a unique approach and I jumped at the chance play and help Michael outWhile Covid restrictions meant we could only do these preliminary sessions over Zoom, which presented a unique challenge to this film, Michael did brilliantly to pull it together into a cohesive film. Shot on location on Long Island over two days in May, it's the story of a man (Russ Martin) considering the family hardware store, the conflicts over it with his family, staff and the sleazy developer (Booker - me).The project reteamed me Michael and Russ for the first time since we shot a piece for Michal's HS film class. Even though Russ produced There is a Reaper, I didn't get to work with him much.I'll post a link to the film once Michael is done in the editing room.

I'm excited to be bringing the most dysfunctional family of the Middle Ages to life, and to play the young Prince Richard the Lionheart in this dramatized story of a real life Game for a Throne. This show has everything: sibling rivalry, adultery, family infighting, and dungeons. While a very dramatic piece, it's still incredibly funny.The play is set at Henry's castle in Chinon, France on Christmas of 1183 and tells a fictionalized story of the English Royal Plantagenet family: Henry II, King of England; his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine (whom he keeps imprisoned to stop her from orchestrating another coup allowing her to court for holidays and special events); their sons: oldest surviving brother: Richard the Lionheart, youngest son: John (eventual villain in Robin Hood), and middle child syndrome suffering Geoffrey, who are jockeying for position as heirs; Alais Capet, Princess of France (betrothed to Richard by treaty as a child, raised to adulthood by Eleanor, and now Henry's latest mistress), and her shrewd brother Philip II, the newly crowned King of France. I was honored to be asked to join this merry band of madcap explorers by my friend Michael Wright, who is directing this reading of The Explorers Club by Nell Benjamin. It's like a Python skit gone long form. London. 1879. The prestigious Explorers Club is in crisis: their acting president wants to admit a woman, and their bartender is terrible. True, this female candidate is brilliant, beautiful, and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundation of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink? Featuring appearances by treason, deadly cobras, irate Irishmen, and the occasional airship.

I was proud to be a small part of the efforts to rebuild on this historic site.On January 13 2019, the historic American Shakespeare Festival Theater was destroyed by arsonists. It was a gut punch anyone who is remotely connected to the arts in CT, theatre pros and Shakespeare lovers the world over. SACF is working to raise funds to rebuild a new venue on this historic property and return live theatre to the grounds.Opened in 1955 and shuttered in the mid-80's, the ASFT was a storied venue for Classical Theatre. Over the years, a veritable Who's Who of American Theatre graced her stage including: former Artistic Director John Houseman, Katharine Hepburn, Julie Taymor, James Earl Jones, Christopher Plummer, and Christopher Walken, to name very few. There were several attempts to renovate and reopen in the ensuing decades, including one with which my wife and I were involved in the mid-90's. One attempt succeeded in finishing renovations to the actors' cottage at the front of the property (where in 2014, Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford opened), but governmental bureaucracy has stymied further progress.If, you've read this far, please consider donating to the rebuilding efforts.

Which is told through a fictional meeting of Picasso and Einstein at the very real Lapin Agile bar in 1904 Paris, I get to work with some old friends and made some new ones on this comedy written by Steve Martin (yes, that Steve Martin) and directed by my dear friend Mat Young. I'll be playing Gaston, who is basically a 60-Something Parisian Norm PetersonShow runs April 4-21st.

SWINK (Written by Bryn Berg & Analisa Robertson/Directed by Analisa Robertson) is a short made over one weekend, and edited in a week for the Actor's Green Room Monthly Short Film Challenge.It's about a dating app (a la Tinder) that gets its own reality show. Had a blast stepping in and working with my good friends Wayne Keeley and Stephanie Lyons-Keeley as they dusted off Wayne's 25 year old monster movie: Kissy Cousins, Monster Babies and Morphing ElvisEarlier in 2017, after the film languished in distribution hell for 25 years, Wayne was asked by one of the stars (David Belafonte) to toss it up on YouTube for posterity. In order to give it context, Wayne and Stephanie wrote a bookend/wraparound update to give the film something of a context in 2017.To keep it light-hearted and frugal, they asked friends and family to help out. I had a blast playing a metal patient frightened away by a Dr Lechter (played by my wife Tanya Feduik-Smith) Hopefully now that we have this footage done, Wayne can get the full thing up and I can see what I got myself into.***Now an Official Selection at the CT Film Festival***

I will be playing Anatoly, speaking Ukrainian, and learning how to perform in front of a camera.About the Film:The Tutor is a short suspense film produced by Danbury based Independent Film company: Hat City Pictures, LLC, written and directed by Angel Rosa. It is intended to function as both a stand-alone short, and as a module sequence for the feature film, Contrived.The Story:Jessica Alvarez comes to be employed by a Ukrainian immigrant, Anatoly Danilenko, who enlists her services as nanny and tutor for his 10-year-old son, David.Anatoly works the midnight shift, and as a result, David, who is home-schooled, has grown accustomed to a flip-flopped schedule atypical for most children his age. Jessica’s primary responsibility will be to tend to David’s needs, and provide the education and interaction necessary for a growing young boy.Soon Jessica will learn that Anatoly may be hiding a terrifying secret. David needs to learn right from wrong under the most horrifying of circumstances as Jessica finds herself in the greatest test of nature vs. nurture. Survival may rest on the level of skill of David’s new tutor.

"The Memory Of" is a new play by Rachel Schulte. This premiere production is directed by Jess Rodi for the Lipstick Project in collaboration with the Wilton Playshop.It's great to work with Jeremy Funke (who played Hamlet to my Claudius in The Bijou's Rep productions of Hamlet and R&G) and Julie Thaxter-Gourlay (who played opposite of me as Tupolski in Pillowman). I play Tyler, the widowed owner of the bar where Renee works. The Memory Of is multimedia play involving both live action and filmed flashback segments. It ultimately focuses on dealing with what was, in order to embrace what has to be.The story focuses on Renee, a young artist living in New York, who is struggling to find her gift again after suffering a devastating loss. Those closest to her cannot agree on the best course of action to help her move on. Among her supporters is Noah, her best friend and roommate. As Noah's love for his friend becomes more apparent, he must try and come to terms with what he wants versus what is best for Renee. Renee herself must make a choice to either leave the past behind her, or surrender to it forever. The production will benefit The Lipstick Project. A theatre company whose mission is to "create and promote Art by women, for the Empowerment of women, and the Enlightenment of all." They also perform benefit shows to raise awareness and money for various causes important to women. They are currently working to support SAFER, an organization that supports "student-led movements to combat sexual and interpersonal violence in campus communities."

Along with my wife, Tanya Feduik-Smith, I joined Artistic Director, Tony Stimac, and Executive Producer Christine Brown, to revitalize the flagging theatre's attendance.As Artistic Consultants for this historic theatre, we assisted with promotions, poster and program designs, programming choices, advertising, and technical staffing. It was an eye-opening experience to be involved in the many aspects of running a multi-genre performance space.As Co-Producers of the Bijou Actors Guild we coordinated submissions and choose the slate of shows for the Live Theatre seasons. As Producers for each Guild show, we assumed the duties of facilitating/locating/procuring rehearsal space, crew, sound, lights, costumes, sets etc.We also coordinated the Selection Committee for our One-Act Playwriting contest, and the staged readings of the finalists. Working with the Guild's Executive Committee, we designed youth and adult training classes for local performers, and were hoping to partner with Housatonic Community College to offer these classes to their Theatre Majors as well as the public.Sadly, these and many other efforts came to an abrupt halt when The Bijou was forced to suddenly shut it's doors in August 2016. I spearheaded a campaign to save her, but ultimately, there was not enough time left on the clock. About The Bijou: The oldest Movie House in the country, it was originally designed as an opera house, but opened in 1909 as a cinema. After laying dormant for many years, The Bijou re-opened July 7, 2011 as the focal point of the Bijou Square renaissance. In 2013, The Bijou began producing its own live theater seasons. These productions were met with praise from audiences and critics alike, garnering 30 OnStage Critics’ Awards nominations over its first two full seasons. These successes led to the establishment of Bijou Actors' Guild in January 2016, to produce the third season. Financial difficulties forced its closure in August 2016

The best part was I got to play opposite my wife as Laura Benson. I played Hamlet, and discussed death with my wife the Gravedigger. I fought with swords and caught the imagination of a certain three-year old (my son) who had to dress as Hamlet for Halloween that year. Ever since, he has been fascinated with swordplay, ancient weapons and history.

I played several roles in this post-apocalyptic take on the "Scottish Play," directed by the extremely talented Joe Tantalo, for his then fledgling "Godlight".It was a great experience to work with Joe, and I will always remember the way we had to find clandestine rehearsal spaces where we could work: unused classrooms (and one time a Ladies Room) at Southern CT Univ. (or was it UNH?), a dance studio in New Haven, and the back room at Viva Zapata's. It always had the feeling of an underground, rebel production. Especially when we had to abruptly break mid-rehearsal to vacate a room when we heard people coming to kick us out.Joe and Godlight have gone on to great things in NYC, and I have to say it couldn't have happened to nicer guy.(http://www.godlighttheatrecompany.org/)

I wore all black, cleared props, reset tables and hid from audience sight as was expected.

HDT was a Washington DC Area institution for live theatre. Now closed, it was a venue for Musical Theatre with a buffet dinner within the theme of the play.Being broke and in college, getting free food during show days and free tickets to performances were very cool perks.The most exciting thing i got to do here was coordinating an extension for their run of Phantom of the Opera. The first (and last) extension in the history of HDT. Because there was no precedent, the subsequent show, Kismet, was scheduled to begin immediately following the intended close of Phantom. So those patrons had to be bumped and given tickets to later dates of Kismet or their current seats for the new date of Phantom.Needless to say that from this experience, I learned patience in the face of anger, customer service in the face of venom, poise in the face of ferocity, and a whole lot of curse words. Trust me, nothing preps you for parenting through the terrible twos like a little old lady on a tirade.
