I believe meaningful design occurs at the intersection of people, science and art. I believe in looking for the right interaction and integration of these. When done well, the impacts and affects are powerful and positive, both now and for the next generation. Architecture is the most powerful instrument for creating effects, a sense of place (both perceived and real), meaning, and memory.  Its ability to create all of these is what I believe, most greatly ascribes architecture as an art form. ​For instance, A house is functional.  A home is much, much more.Before designing, I focus on understanding what my clients want to accomplish and why. These include both objective and subjective elements. The framework and definitions of the projects goals and needs become critical. Once these are more clearly understood, the design explorations start. This framework of understanding becomes the lens thru which virtually every design decision is made. ​When done well, the design produces desired effects, defines the place, suggests, or reinforces meanings, and recalls memories while allowing new ones to form.  Design is the most powerful tool we have.Focus –Thorough pre-design to understand what my clients want to accomplish and why.
