About E. John Sebes

I'm the Chief Technology Officer at the TrustTheVote Project, an open source digital public works project. We make election technology for U.S. elections officials to use to administer voter rolls and elections, and to conduct the process of casting and counting ballots. I'm also a board member for the Open Source Election Technology (OSET) Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports the TrustTheVote Project. Prior to the TrustTheVote Project, I've been a software developer, technical consultant, and CTO, working in several areas - network infrastructure, application frameworks, embedded systems, critical infrastructure, datacenter operations - with strong common themes of risk management, security, privacy, and reliability. Innovation and tech transfer have been another consistent theme, in settings as varied as government-funded R&D, venture-backed start-ups, professional services, academia, and non-profits.For parts of my career, I've provided independent consulting services related to information security and IT operations assurance, for a variety of organizations ranging from technology start-ups and venture capital firms to major government agencies and established financial services firms. At other times, I've been a Principal Investigator in R&D projects, ranging from DARPA projects performed in the pre-web era, to recent work with DHS on open source security technology. I've been working non-profit with a focus on election technology for the past several years, partly from a desire to do public service with my professional skills, and partly because it is a surprisingly good fit for several seemingly disparate parts of my work history and interests. Previously CTO at Solidcore Systems, Inc.; VP Strategy at Securify; Technology Officer of Network Associates Labs; and variety of consulting, development, and R&D management roles at commercial InfoSec pioneer Trusted Information Systems.Co-author of 12 patents and 20+ publications
