OCIC is an independent research consultancy providing bespoke deliverables for China-centric project verticals. It produces policy analysis with a client base of development consultancies, the public sector, think tanks, NGOs, and academic institutions.

Within the unit for Strategic Policy Planning, this position supported the efforts of the Corporate Planning, Policy, and Pan-Asian Regional Programming Division, the pan-regional coordination directorate of the Asia-Pacific Branch (OGM).• Composed Branch inputs from the Director-General to Assistant Deputy Minister levels, including background notes, conceptual proposals, preparatory agendas, briefing binders, presentation decks, and talking points.• Led the authorship and launch of a departmental circular on OGM policy research, media tracking, and mission network reporting, drafting analytical briefs of internal and external policy documents with oversight over streams for regional foreign policy, security, and the economy.• Coordinated the delivery and production of Branch papers for COVID-19 crisis initiatives, including the collation of Asia-Pacific mission correspondence and reporting briefs for the Privy Council Office and the federal Cabinet's Ministerial COVID-19 Committee.• Developed research plans for divisional policy products on COVID-19's impact on Asia-Pacific economies, charting roadmaps for non-Branch and OGD consultations, research library cooperation, and evergreen briefing notes.

This position supported the crisis efforts of the Emergency Watch and Response Centre, extending emergency outreach to overseas Canadian nationals as part of the Government of Canada's global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.• Undertook and processed a high volume of calls as triaged by the department's emergency consular operations, supplementing duties as a regular officer by informing Canadian nationals of available assistance, chartered flight paths, repatriation protocol, and local missions access.• Transcribed and filed applications for the Government of Canada's COVID-19 Emergency Loan Program for Canadians Abroad on the behalf of incoming callers, conveying conditionalities as well as additional support instruments.

This position supported the efforts of the Macro Policy and Special Initiatives Section of the International Trade and Finance Branch, directly feeding into the activities of the Assistant Associate Deputy Minister.• Prepared briefing notes, presentation decks, and bilateral correspondence on macroeconomic issues as departmental input to the G20 Framework Working Group (FWG) and its agenda on Strong, Sustainable, Balanced and Inclusive Growth.• Researched and analyzed quantitative and qualitative reporting from academia and multilateral organizations including the IMF, OECD, BIS, World Bank, and UNCTAD, summarizing as input to the AADM in their capacity as Canadian Co-chair to the FWG under the G20.• Conducted literature reviews and evaluated public sector efforts on digital governance as mission support to the AADM in their role as Canadian representative to the Canada-UK Public Policy Forum through the Working Group on Modern Economy.• Surrogated to attend roundtables, workshops, panels, and conferencing organized by international organizations, stakeholder groups, other government departments, and visiting scholars, producing summary notes for Section review.

Under the BC Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology, this position supported the efforts of the International Business Development Division through its East Asia and International Markets Branches as well as its network of Trade and Investment Representative offices.• Developed and expanded on Branch strategic plans, presentation decks, meeting backgrounders, speech materials, and briefing notes for ministerial staff.• Conducted background research on companies, associations, and other stakeholder groups in relation to trade and investment opportunities in the province's priority industries and emergent sectors, integrating financial and market developments into strategy documents.• Prepared updates for branch directors and sector managers through summary reports, profiles, and fact sheets, reviewing economic trends and targeting opportunities identified through internal statistics and business intelligence.• Facilitated logistical and financial preparations for inbound and outbound delegations, executive visits, and government missions for ministerial staff to and from Asia, the United States, and Europe.
