My current role as Business Innovation Manager involves responsibilities for seeking & developing new technology opportunities for thin-film coating & related services. Also involved with prototype development, commercialisation, marketing (eg trade shows) & collaborations with industry & academia.Engineering responsibilities include optical design & characterisation of thin film designs for optical & optoelectronic devices, machine & process development.

Originally established in East Anglia EVE Networks specialised in computer network design, installation & IT Support, web site design, web-based systems development & hosting for a range of small to medium-sized businesses. I moved the business to Edinburgh in 2002, where it continued to grow successfully until it was sold in 2009.

I developed cleanroom processes using state-of-the-art photolithography equipment including near-field holography masks & laser interference equipment. I also designed & developed detector arrays for high-speed fibre-optic communication.

Initially part of the advanced components group designing active & passive optical amplifiers for undersea fibre communications, I then moved into optoelectronic device R&D with projects including miniature optical isolators, DFB laser design & manufacture, DFB grating fabrication & high speed optical detector array chips.
