Athletic Facility Operations InternHigh Point University Aug 2014 - Dec 2014High Point, Nc, UsAs a college student, there is no atmosphere more exciting than university athletics. This past semester as a volunteer intern I worked with the Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities & Operations with all event planning as well as day to day procedures. Event operations, include management of varsity athletic events or other events hosted in the university’s facilities. Day to day procedures consist of daily maintenance of athletic facilities on campus. Additionally, responsibilities include office assistance, excellent customer service and prep and breakdown of athletic facilities. -
Multi-Channel Network InternWhistle Sports Network Jun 2014 - Aug 2014New York, New York, UsKids love to play and watch sport. But, it can be difficult to sit through 4 hour matches or games on TV. Yet, if you give them clips with the games highlights and interviews with players, then they will. Imagine condensing the content and making it fast-paced, with graphics and stats on the side of the screen, interviews with players, and audio - more going on for kids, who are now wired to multitask - then they will be engaged! The Whistle promotes spectator sports to children from 8 to 17 through content that is reconstructed to make it more digestible, and then distributed through the media platforms that they frequent far more than adults do, including YouTube, major gaming consoles, and other social media platforms. This demographic of children between the ages of eight and seventeen - 70 percent of whom are engaged in organized sports - are in need of exactly what The Whistle has to offer: a mix of sports instruction, behind-the-scenes exclusives and kid interviews with pro and Olympic athletes, a bloopers segment, games and cartoons about sports, contests, sports history, news, statistics, and user-created programming. Kids can send in their own sports videos, for example, as well as track and promote their real-world and online sports achievements through the website. My responsibilities as an intern is to help with this vision by creating brand awareness across social media platforms, all while keeping our target audience entertained & inspired with relevant content through interactive ways to keep active and engaged. -
Volunteer MentorBig Brothers Big Sisters Aug 2011 - Jan 2014Tampa, Fl, UsHaving the opportunity to influence a child for the better is a gift. As a volunteer big brother, I was fortunate enough to provide a positive influence to elementary aged students working one-on-one with them offering support and encouragement. And, oh yeah, it was so much fun. I received as much in return as I had hoped to give. Whether it was shooting hoops, assisting in the classroom or even carving pumpkins, providing time is what mattered most to these kids and that can make the difference. -
Student Athlete Division I BaseballHigh Point University Aug 2011 - Jan 2014High Point, Nc, UsWorking toward a college degree can be a challenge. Combine that with being a member of a Division 1 baseball program, and that challenge becomes an exercise in time management for the current student athlete. Up at 5:30am, lifting, breakfast, morning classes, meeting with Sport Management Club, lunch with teammates, help from faculty, on the field by 2:30, 100 ground balls, practice until 6:00pm, dinner, study hall, and of course, SportsCenter. Being part of a team, improving skills, working towards a common goal, leading by example, the pressure of impressing the coaches….got to love it. Balancing these two can be daunting, but I would not want it any other way. Grip and rip. -
