As a subcontractor for a NASA customer at Marshall Space Flight Center, conducted research and development of density-based interferometric pressure sensors on site at MSFC/Redstone Arsenal. In six months, designed, developed, fabricated, and tested fiber-optic leak detector sensors. Constructed a fiber-optic feedthrough for high vacuum use. Co-inventor on fiber-optic leak detector patent, filed through NASA. Laser safety and laser operator NASA training.

Conducted professional research in aerospace applications of laser ablation. Awarded GCOE Young Researcher grant for investigation of laser ablation scaling topics. Published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Presented cutting-edge research in two international conferences. Organized an ongoing international scientific research collaboration using various CO2 lasers to investigate area scaling and measurement standardization topics. Participated as a Visiting Scientist in an intense 2-week research effort at DLR (German Aerospace Center), Stuttgart, Germany with a 150 J CO2 laser. Designed and built a scalable impulse pendulum, and researched force sensor calibration methods and applications.
