John is an audit committee financial expert, qualifies as a diverse board candidate (Latino), and has significant financial and operational experience from his 37-year career as a senior audit partner at Deloitte. John currently serves on the board of directors and audit committee of Stearns Bank N.A, a $3 billion bank headquartered in Minnesota. He is also an advisory board member to two privately held companies in Arizona, one a real estate brokerage and the other a marketing agency. In addition to his corporate board roles, John is actively engaged in community and philanthropic activities serving on non-profit boards, including the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Child Crisis Arizona. He is also a member of the Latino Corporate Directors Association.Prior to his retirement from Deloitte in late 2020, John held several leadership roles at Deloitte including partner-in-charge of Deloitte’s Arizona audit practice where he was responsible for all aspects of the practice including financial results, revenue growth, client service, and talent recruitment, development, and retention. John has significant experience advising management teams and boards of public and private companies in a variety of industries including real estate, process manufacturing, home building and manufacturing, higher education, and a number of service industries. He enjoys working on complex financial matters including public and private capital raises, IPOs, M&A transactions, compliance with SEC regulations, risk management, and enhancement of internal controls and processes.
