Responsible for overseeing Groundswell Fund's grantmaking through its five grantmaking portfolios. Duties include:Manage the grantmaking team currently compromised of three Program Officers, and three Program Assistants. Lead efforts to ensure accurate evaluation of programmatic impact in partnership with Program Officers and external evaluators. Lead the implementation of new grantmaking initiatives and ensure that the team is working towards meeting resource allocation targets through our grantmaking portfolios. Work closely with the Director of Capacity-Building to ensure cohesion of programmatic efforts and effective communication across departments. Work closely with our Funder Organizing department to coordinate strategy within donor networks and cultivate/maintain donor relationships.

Managed deliverables and supported coalition efforts focused on key issues for our membership and communities: housing justice, climate resilience, criminal justice reform, and reproductive justice. Also managed the internal cross-organizational decolonizing committee and efforts.

Managed a responsive monthly arts and culture grantmaking fund focused on supporting free events in Oakland that use the arts as a tool to build voice, leadership, and self-determination in communities of color. Secured partnerships with peer funders to deepen support of arts and culture ecosystem in Oakland.Led the development of a rapid response grantmaking program focused on advancing safety and healing in Oakland.Led an internal year long organizational learning process on race and displacement in Oakland and wrote a culminating report.

Led due diligence on letters of inquiry and managed grant renewals for board docket; recommended 40 organizations for funding ranging in budgets of from $100,000 to $7 million. Due diligence included: organizing and attending site visits, evaluating proposals, analyzing financials, and writing grant recommendations.Provided guidance and conducted research on program strategies focused on responding to changing demographics, cultural equity, community-based arts, arts leadership and arts journalism furthering efforts to diversify the portfolio of 220 grantees. Expanded Program’s strategic communications efforts by presenting grantmaking strategies to grantees, presenting before the board, writing blogs that highlighted the work of grantees, and managing the development of digital assets that visually communicated the impact of grantmaking strategies. Contributed towards building a better understanding of who benefits from Hewlett funding by co-managing the mid-point assessment of our five year strategic framework.Successfully designed and launched a grantee community of practice for 50 grantees to build their capacity to conduct audience research and engage audiences in response to changing demographics of the Bay Area that included: organizing a one-day convening of grantees, designing several day-long grantee field trips, hosting webinars, and coordinating six peer led knowledge-sharing groups.Increased the Program’s ability to offer capacity building support to grantees by applying improved project management, program design, and facilitation skills to manage several complex consultant contracts ranging in budget from $30,000 to $500,000.
