Through four cascading studies, Bill's PhD sought to demonstrate that deep learning can establish strong relationships between movement captured by marker-based motion capture or wearable sensor accelerometers and ground and joint kinetics. The prototypes he developed present a new path for researchers to follow armed with the knowledge that precedents of successful non-linear models exist in this domain. His research demonstrated an end-to-end deep learning workbench for human movement, one that allows sports and clinical researchers to extract value from existing captive data and realize other spatio-temporal use-cases. The deployment of deep learning models in lieu of laboratory-based instrumentation represents a potential disruptor for biomechanics. Driven from a continuous stream of real-time kinematics provided by sensors or computer vision, these new models may revolutionize the monitoring of human movement via accurate multidimensional analyses away from the laboratory.The contribution of Bill's research is that the overarching hypothesis, whether it is possible to build deep learning models that can mimic the physics behind human movement, specifically to replace force plate derived kinetic output, was supported.Bill's research was part-funded via a scholarship, two hardware grants, and conference travel awards, and he published three of his four studies in peer-reviewed journals before graduation. By complementing his business engineering background with cutting-edge data science, Bill has positioned himself to extract value from the next generation of IoT use-cases across a wide range of industries.

Bill had IT responsibility for six onshore offices and their corresponding offshore locations. Reporting to the COO, liaising with the CEO, Directors, and Country Managers, Bill led up to 21 FTEs, contractors, and service providers in a multi-source AUD$10M strategy. Ophir had high expectations for IT to maintain geoscience capability while staying nimble to service drilling projects squeezed between the programs of larger organizations. Bill achieved this first by delivering equipment conformity, from laptops to VSAT. Second, by introducing company-wide collaboration tools, network acceleration, redundancy, and resilience. Third, applying a tactical mindset, resulting in the design and deployment of rugged pre-assembled half-height racks for field-based deployment and monitoring. Despite challenging circumstances, Bill achieved success by building team respect through strong relationships and trust.

AeM Group was a boutique management consultancy in Perth that Ajilon acquired in 2007. For BHP Billion, Bill's role was that of a tactical Program Delivery Manager, providing leadership and support to onsite consultants and ensuring client satisfaction. Assigned to the e2e supply chain project for BHPB Iron Ore, Port Hedland, Bill's challenge was to improve solution delivery by enhancing communication between 200 people across six technical teams. Next, he developed and syndicated technology solution white papers with the executive leadership as the Telecommunications Manager for the BHPB Iron Ore Rail project. Finally, as a Project Manager for BHPB Carbon Steel Materials Marketing, Bill led 1SAP content for a customer plant database. This assignment involved living in Singapore, working in all BHPB SE Asia offices, and global syndication.

Starting as Systems Support Officer in NW Shelf Exploration, he built a reputation for innovation in contract design, negotiation, and technical understanding. Bill gathered a string of Australian deployment firsts along the way: the highest capacity single-footprint storage array, the biggest 3D immersive room in the southern hemisphere, and the largest green-field unified communications network. In 2002, Bill joined a small M&A project team before leading the Gartner fast-tracked IT outsource project, for which the AUD$20M sale of Woodside's IT assets to stabilize long-term capital recovery was unprecedented. Finally, Bill led the communications team of 30 people in Western Australia, Mauritania, and Texas, with an AUD$25M budget covering AUD$200M telecommunications and networking infrastructure.
