Phd Candidate- Bioinformatics
I was working towards a PhD covering a broad range of applications using Next Generation Sequencing data. I applied these technologies to answer questions about how the sex determination system of the American Alligator works at the molecular level using a combination of de-novo genome assembly and comparative RNA-sequencing. Part of my experience was taking a lead roll managing the genome assembly effort, and sharing results with an internationally dispersed team of collaborators. We worked together to, analyze, and ultimately publish a high impact study of the genomes of this previously unsampled branch of the tree of life. Crocodilians, despite their similar appearance, are about as different from each-other evolutionarily as we are from mice!
