My doctoral research used utility functions to automatically configure and tune storage systems. Utility functions provide a way for administrators to express their data storage objectives in terms of higher-level metrics (e.g., performance or data protection). Because the utility functions also encode preferences across these metrics, the storage system.

Worked on automated storage provisioning.My task was to extend Ergastulum, a storage provisioning tool, for use in a utility computing environment. The project required extending Ergastulum with a model of the HP StorageWorks XP512 disk array and enhancing it to support configuring a storage system with a fixed allocation of resources.

I designed and prototyped circuitry to interface with F-15E radar systems and missile instrumentation. I implemented the interface logic in VHDL, synthesized it into a Xilinx FPGA, and tested it on the actual hardware.
