Three aspects of my childhood formed my development as an interior designer. First, the world of Lego opened me to limitless creative options. Second, international travel at a young age showed me unique and breathtaking architecture and inspired a love of travel that continues to today. And last, games like The Sims were always more about the buildings than the people for me.In the process of studying interior design at Purdue, I discovered another facet of myself: my strength in a support role in a team. I’m competent in my own right but excel assisting others, whether it be offering suggestions to improve an impressive design or troubleshooting a technical issue. In class I often found myself called on to assist classmates before the professor.If I had my pick of buildings, with my aforementioned love of travel, I would love to design airports and hotels. Sadly, those are rarely built, yet I hold out hope to work on one someday. Failing that, getting to work on projects around the world would be incredible.Recently, I’ve had the honor of being asked by Otie and Rosemary Kilmer of Kilmer and Associates if they could use one of my projects in their next textbook “Construction Drawings and Details for Interiors. 3rd Ed.” and I look forward to seeing my work in print this Fall.
