Designed a four channel 12G SDI Capture card FPGA. This FPGA is a Kintex UltraScale with 8 lanes of Gen 3 PCIe. Prior designs utilized Intel (Altera) Cyclone V FPGAs. These FPGA were used on a Dual 3G SDI and a Dual HDMI Capture card, both with 4 lanes of Gen 2 PCIe. All of these cards allow full bandwidth video capture. Applications running on the host PCs allow video streaming.

Took a 3 year Sabbatical living aboard our sailboat. Galveston Texas fist 9 months. Then in the Western Caribbean. April of 2014 we sailed from Galveston Texas to Mexico, then to Belize, and then the Rio Dulce region of Guatemala for hurricane season. Flew home for the holidays. Sailed back to Belize to explore barrier reef and islands. Sailed to Roatan Honduras for 6 months. Returned home May 2016. JH

Designing a large FPGA Family for Next Generation HD+ Streaming Video systems. This Lattice FPGA family has multi-channel HD+ (3G) SDI and HDMI Video interfaces, has a 20G throughput 64bit DDR2 interface, and a parallel interface to a PCIe ASSP device. ALDEC simulation was used on this Verilog design. Starting to design the next gen cards with PCIe2.0 FPGA interface.

May 2007 to May 2009Using a Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA, wrote Verilog code to combine the IP blocks of several ASICs and FPGAs into a single FPGA for the OC3 card. Also developed an FPGA for the ROADM product. Wrote Verilog code to perform the SONET Overhead communications link. Also wrote the HW Spec for entire device. May 1999 to May 2007Designed the ESTMUX card. Used an Actel FPGA to replace an End of Life T1 Framer for the OC12LU card. Led the QUAD OC3SU and OC48LU card developments. In addition to leading these designs, I did much of the digital design and all Analog design. The cards went through extensive testing with zero defects.

Responsible for the Analog and Digital line and trunk card design and support for several different PBXs and Automatic Call Distributors. Consulting with younger engineers to help them design the most cost effective, reliable, and producible products possible.
