John Mullen is a collaborative, inclusive, higher education administrator and results driven media manager. John leads / works with executive board members, administrators, faculty, students, alumni, community members, and corporate partners to continuously grow the value of WRHU FM for all stakeholders. Recruiting / retaining a large student staff, maximizing revenue, establishing productive partnerships, and gaining national recognition (four National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Awards) are some of the many positive outcomes. John leads teams of multi-platform content producers and broadcast partners to produce / distribute NHL & NBA live game play-by-play, news/talk, and music content. He also produces The Northwell / Zucker School of Medicine weekly podcast "Well Said" with Dr. Ira Nash.This is the 15th year John is managing the innovative NY Islanders radio network. He has produced / syndicated over 1,007 live NY Islanders NHL games to multiple platforms (ESPN, WFAN, Sirius/XM, NHL.com and apps). Since 2015, John has collaborated with stakeholders to converge video & audio play-by-play broadcasts for the Brooklyn Nets NBA G-league franchise (Long Island Nets). He also leads / works with multi-platform broadcasters to execute broadcasts for the LI Ducks baseball franchise, NY Riptide, and Hofstra D1 teams. Beyond sports, John has successfully organized / executed numerous broadcasts from United States Presidential Debates, state primaries, Democratic National Conventions, Republican National Conventions, Presidential Inaugurations and other political events. John constructed pitches that earned WRHU four National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Marconi Awards (in 2022, 2019, 2017 and in 2014 when WRHU became the first Non-Commercial station in history to earn a Marconi Award). He enters content for staff who earn awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Associated Press, and other prestigious organizations. Prior to joining WRHU, John spent over a decade in program management at New York City stations owned by Emmis Communications, Inner City Broadcasting, and other first-class companies. John has worked with many media industry leaders, top tier talent, and numerous innovators throughout his career. Working with / mentoring thousands of young adults for over two decades has taught John Mullen to embrace new-technology, innovative platforms, and new ideas with passion. John always looks ahead for the next trend to serve diverse communities high quality content.
