Intern for East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) on a bathymetric survey of Pardee Reservoir located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The watershed above Pardee supplies about 80% of the water for EBMUD's 1.3 million customers. The combined LiDAR and multibeam sonar survey was used to create a high resolution (1 meter) map above and below the water line that will allow EBMUD to have a more accurate accounting of its water capacity. Additionally, we'll take the dataset from the survey and simulate the lead-line survey technique used historically in order to compare to previous silt surveys. Comparing the surveys we'll be able to show long-term sedimentation trends.

Irrigation Management in the Salinas Valley and Central Valley, California. The main objective of the proposed research is to apply satellite observations and wireless sensor networks to characterize soil moisture and evapotranspiration rates in agricultural settings for use in irrigation scheduling and management.I am doing R programming to organize and clean large datasets from Decagon sensors that are installed in production farm fields. This is a CSU Monterey Bay internship funded by a USDA contract to work with CalFire's Monterey/ San Benito Unit to develop fire preplan maps. I am creating maps that will be used for communicating evacuation routes to community members. Additionally, I am making data-driven agency maps that are more complex and are designed to show intersection between assets like infrastructure, housing, etc., and fire pre-plan areas. As an example, this kind of mapping allows a fire crisis management team to quickly and visually determine what kind of fire truck can be sent down a given road (based on turn radius or road surface for example)... Another map I am working on is dividing the unit into Fire Danger Rating Areas based on remote sensing data and spatial analysis.

Reservoir hydrographic survey and sedimentation analysis.

Acted as co-director for an appropriate technology (AT) rural development project in Chiapas, Mexico. Our group focused on AT issues as related to improving health conditions in remote rural communities.I did project management of various gravity-fed potable water systems which included topographical survey, system design, construction, and training of local technicians in the installation and maintenance of the system. I also designed and managed the installation of a photovoltaic system for electrifying a rural community-based regional clinic.Additionally, we managed ongoing training related to several latrine, ongoing training in in medicinal herb projects for female health promoters.
