During more than 35 years as a non-profit executive, I’ve leveraged my experience in finance and business development as CEO, EVP, COO and CFO for some of the most important nonprofits in North America. It’s my firmly held belief that the most successful nonprofit organizations are those that are run like businesses – not with profit in mind but instead the benefit to the community and continued growth and influence of the organization through a robust, sustainable development and management model. I’m a “for-profit philanthropist” bringing the disciplines of co-active leadership, metrics and operational efficiency into the non-profit world to drive measurable results.While I’ve always believed in the goals of the organizations for which I work, my wife’s cancer diagnosis in 2004 created in me the passion to learn as much as I could behind the science that drives the work of health-related nonprofits. With FASI, my goal is to put the organization at the crossroads of academia, biotech and pharma as a facilitator to drive research on food allergies and advance treatments for patients.My role as a leader is to further develop FASI’s strategy and infrastructure and create a team of people who have a desire to impact the quality of life for people with food allergies, have the experience in translational science, and understand the path from initial drug discovery to bringing an FDA-approved drug to market.Some Career Highlights: ►Created Patient Co-Pay business and developed it from concept to Office of the Inspector General approval. As chief fundraiser, I raised $1.3 million in the first six months of 2007, culminating in $56 million in 2014 and the assistance of more than 15,000 patients annually.► Co-led a complete redesign of the entire LLS research portfolio from a traditional academic model to a robust platform transforming the organization into a leader in cancer-focused “venture philanthropy.” Generated potential of $2 billion of outside "deal flow" within the first four years through biotech partnerships.► Dramatically expanded research focus to increase partnerships with biotech and academia. Increased funding for phase I, II, and III clinical trials. Funding as much as $80 million annually. Negotiated royalty agreements with major institutions.
